A 50-year member of the Paradise Chapter No. 549 Order of Eastern Star, Mrs. Poff loved nature, gardening, travel and needlework. Her greatest joy was her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Poff was preceded in death by her husband, who died in 1964. She is survived by her son James of Davis; daughter Marilyn "Jo Ann" Ludwick of Paradise; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Private inurnment will take place at the Chico Cemetery. on September 14, 1996.³

     James Lawrence Poff was born on December 6, 1931 at Chico, Butte Co., California.^2,6 He married Nova Claire Nicolson on June 26, 1964 at Sacramento Co., California.⁷ James Lawrence Poff and Nova Claire Nicolson were divorced in May, 1971 at Yolo Co., California.⁸ James Lawrence Poff died on August 31, 2017 at California at age 85.⁶ He James "Jim" Poff passed away peacefully at home on August 31, 2017, surrounded by his loving family and his beloved dog, Annie. He leaves behind his wife Nova, daughters Karen and Kristen Poff, son-in-law Nate Blakeslee and four grandchildren: Manning, June, Arlo and Iris. He is also survived by his niece Cheryle Elmquist and nephew Gary Brownlee. Jim was born on December 6, 1931 in Chico, California to Ardye Jo and Milton Poff. Along with his sister JoAnn Ludwick, he was raised in the foothills of the Northern Sierra Nevada in the town of Paradise. Jim initially attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo but left to join the Air Force and fight in the Korean War. After his service, he finished his degree at Fresno State. His college career was interrupted a second time when he contracted polio at age 26. True to his courageous fighting spirit, he adjusted to the challenges of the disease and returned to finish his degree, receiving a BS in Agricultural Business. Although this was a difficult time, the one bright note was that Jim met his wife Nova while finishing up his rehab at the veterans hospital in Long Beach. They married in 1964 and enjoyed 53 years together. Jim and Nova raised their family in the Sacramento area, where he worked for the State of California at the Employment Development Department for over 30 years. In 2009, they relocated to Los Osos, a Central Coast town on Morro Bay, which Jim had sometimes visited as a young man. Jim loved his family and was a never-ending source of support for any problem, large or small. He enjoyed restoring cars, following auto racing, discovering new wines, and reading about Montana, where he lived as a child. Jim also loved gardening, particularly tending to his carefully cultivated collection of succulents. Over his lifetime, Jim faced many challenges due to his polio, but always persevered without complaint in his usual manner with grace, humor, and unyielding strength. We are heartbroken to have lost him but take solace in the many years of joy we shared with him. on September 6, 2017.⁶

Poff; her brothers, Denver and Eugene Pack; and her sisters, Syble McCoy and Beulah Walls. She is survived by her brother, Howard Pack; her nephews Gary, Denver, Robert and Frankie; and her nieces, Paula, Donna and Beverly. Donnell died on November 26, 1932 at Loco, Collingsworth Co., Texas, at age 79.^2,4,5 He Jacob Donnell, County Pioneer, Buried Here Saturday Nov 26, 1932. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock, November 26, for Jacob Donnell, 79, who died at 12:30 o'clock Saturday morning at his home in the Loco community. Mr. Donnell had lived in Collingsworth county for the past 23 years and was well known as one of the old timers who came here in the early days before Collingsworth county was improved, He came to this section from Clay county and although he did not file on his place, he did make all of the improvements and has lived there since. Mr Donnel was born in McNairy county, Tennessee, on February 5, 1853, and at the time of his, death was 79 years, nine months and 21 days old. He is survived by his wife, Mrs Maggie V. Donnell; one daughter Mrs. Jess Hunsaker; one son, Charlie T. Donnell; three brothers, Calvin Donnell, Vashita, Texas Sam Donnell, Lexington, Oklahoma; Lee Donnell, Pauls Valley, Oklahoma. Three grandchildren, Ernest L. Hunsaker, Dallas, Clarence Hunsaker, Paducah, Viola Hunsaker, Wellington; one great grand daughter, Teresa Beth Hunsaker, Paducah, Mrs. J. M. Poff, Wellington, is a sister of Mrs Donnell. Services were conducted from the Donnell home in the Loco Community by Rev. W. H. Riley and interment was made in the Wellington cemetery by Ellis Funeral Home. Pall bearers were Joe Cummings, Ernest Halleman, Goodham Eldridge, Clint Cleveland, Delph Monaham, Sidney Elmore on December 1, 1932.⁴
