C. McCalib, 73, pioneer Bryan county doctor, died suddenly of a heart attack while attending a patient in his office at Colbert shortly before noon today. A practicing physician in Bryan county since 1905, Dr. McCalib was a native of Arkansas and had lived in Bryan county since 1903. He began his practice at Yuba, moved later to Utica, and for the last 22 years has been practicing in Colbert where he also owned and operated a drug store. He was a member of the Christian church and the Masonic lodge. Survivors include his wife, Addie, of the home address; one son, Bill MeCalib, manager of the Oak Cliff chamber of commerce; and a daughter, Miss Clytie McCalib, librarian at East Central State College, Ada. on April 1, 1959.7

She graduated from Utica High School in 1925, Southeastern Teachers College in 1928, Oklahoma A&M College in 1936 and Oklahoma University in 1951. She taught in Oklahoma public schools for 23 years, 13 at Ringling. She was librarian at McAlester High School 2 years and assistant librarian at East Central State College 21 years. When she retired in 1974, she moved to Colbert and had membership in the following organizations: Colbert First Baptist Church, Bryan County Federated Democrat Women, Delta Kappa Gamma Society International since 1950, Order of Eastern Star since 1938, and past Marton Colbert Chapter No. 352, Charter Member Colbert Historical Society, Charter Member Colbert Area Chamber of Commerce, Oklahoma Historical Society, Bryan County Retired Educators and National Retired Educators. She is survived by sister-in-law Marguerite McCalib; niece Carol Strawderman; nephews David McCalib, Paul McCalib and John McCalib; great-nieces Barbara Wright, Rebecca Beeson and Maddison McCalib; and great-nephews David Wright and Michael McCalib. During her youth she moved with her parents, Bill and Marguerite McCalib to various towns in Texas and Oklahoma where her father worked for the Chamber of Commerce and her mother taught school. Carol attended North Texas State University and earned her Bachelor's Degree in English. She married Lieutenant Stuart Wright in 1960 and almost immediately the newlyweds moved to West Germany for a 3-year Army tour. Although Carol got to travel a great deal in Europe she also found time to give birth to daughters, Barbara and Rebecca. Upon return to the US the couple was stationed at Fort Sill, OK where their son, David was born. After two more tours they moved to Fort Leavenworth, KS where Carol stayed with the kids and earned her Master's Degree in Deaf Education while her husband was in Vietnam. Carol and her family went to Germany again in 1972 where she learned to speak German and also taught in the US Army school system. Their final Army posting was in Albuquerque, NM, where Carol started a new career in real estate. Stuart and Carol were divorced in 1977. Carol married Len Strawderman on January 1, 1978 and they were the owners of the C&H Reality Company in Albuquerque. Carol returned to her first love of teaching deaf students at Del Norte HS and earned her Ph.D. in Special Education from UNM. They moved to Lubbock where Carol taught at Texas Tech for 6 years. But both of them always loved New Mexico and soon returned and built a beautiful pueblo style house in Los Lunas. Carol worked for the Los Lunas school district in many different Administrative and Special Education positions and has touched the lives of many teachers, colleagues and students. Although she retired she still worked as a Diagnostician 4 days a week. She also was a dedicated member of Peralta Methodist Church where she played the piano and sang in the choir. On the weekends she loved going camping and this past summer spent 3 weeks touring the west and helping her son build his house in Snohomish, WA. Carol's other passions included quilting and creating beautiful things with her hands. It was the joy of giving her creations that made her the happiest. Carol is survived by her husband, Leonard Strawderman; her mother, Marguerite McCalib; her brothers, John, David, and Paul McCalib; her daughters, Barbara Wright and Rebecca Beeson; her son, David Wright; and her recent grandchildren, Noah and Cheyanna Beeson, as well as Elissa, Eileen, Fiona, and Felicia Hennessy. Pallbearers will be Don Carter, Joe Dunagan, Dayle Eager, Bill Schattschneider, Michael Ogas, and Art Castillo. The Honorary Pallbearers are Howard Ross, Conrad Hughes, Roy Carson, and Walter Timmons. on January 15, 2005.4

Len was born in Nevada, Missouri. Growing up in Wichita, Kansas Len developed a life-long love of airplanes and flying. Len served four years in the United States Air Force and for part of that time was stationed on Iwo Jima. Len studied engineering at University of Wichita. Len worked from home doing house plans for local builders up to his 80th birthday. In his personal life, Len married Patricia Goben in 1953. Pat and Len had a son, Gary Strawderman in 1958. Len passed his love of flying on to Gary who is a pilot and FAA controller. Len married Carol Wright on January 1, 1978. After a short stint in Lubbock where Carol taught at Texas Tech, they returned to NM. Len and Carol designed and built their dream house in Los Lunas. Len and Carol were members of Peralta Methodist Church. Len loved dogs and duck hunting. When his favorite dog, Zack, was too old to hunt, Len hung up his shotgun as well. Len enjoyed motorcycles and recently had a Honda Goldwing modified into a trike. Only three years ago he and Gary rode to Washington State and back. Len was active in the Goldwing Road Riders Association. Recently Len was delighted by the arrival of grand-baby, Gavin. Len was preceded in death by his parents and beloved wife of 27 years, Carol Strawderman. Len is survived by his son, Gary; grandson, Gavin Lee; two step-daughters, Barbara Wright and Rebecca Beeson and her husband, Tom; two grandchildren, Noah and Cheyanna; step-son, David Wright and his wife, Jane; and friend, Sallie Van Curan who has been a great comfort to Len since Carol's passing. Interment will follow at Terrace Grove Cemetery. on May 9, 2012.3
