He was born in Danville, VA to the late Everett and Geneva Brown. Mr. Brown was an avid athlete with baseball being his favorite. Mr. Brown played baseball at Wake Forest on a scholarship and was drafted professionally by the Washington Senators. Preceding him in death was his wife, Joyce Corbett Brown and a daughter, Teresa Marie Brown. Surviving are a son, Jeffrey Scott Brown (Traci); daughter, Linda Faye Knott (Bob) and four grandchildren, Brooke Brown, Christopher Brown, Grace Knott, and Jessica Knott. A service will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday, November 11, 2011 at Parklawn Mausoleum Chapel with Pastor Johnny Corbett officiating. Entombment will follow the service on November 10, 2011.³

     Maude Dianne Chism was buried at Scearce Family Cemetery (also known as Grogan Family Cemetery), Pittsylvania Co., Virginia.^1,3 She was born on July 18, 1947 at Danville, Virginia.^1,2,3 She died on April 8, 1962 at Danville, Virginia, at age 14.^1,3 She Funeral services for Maude Dianne Chism, 14, were conducted yesterday afternoon from Mr. Hermon Baptist Church by the Rev. F. Wison Bowman and the Rev. Otis Joyner. Interment was in the Grogan family cemetery near Hinesvilie. Miss Chism died Sunday at her home on Hylton Ave., Danville Rt. 2. She had been in ill health for the past four years and was a patient at Memorial Hospital and the Baptist Hospital at Winston-Salem, N.C., on several occasions during this period. The daughter of Willie Washington Chism and Ophelia Holt Chism, she was born in Danville on July 18, 1947. She was a student at Mount Hermon Elementary School until forced to withdraw because of ill health. A member of Mount Hermon Baptist Church, she attended Sunday school regularly until her health failed. In addition to her parents, she is survived by a half-brother, Bobby Chism of Danville Rt. 3. Pallbearers were Gene Richardson, Bill Brown, Melvin Crane, Bob Herndon, Louis Holley and Willie Mills. on April 10, 1962.³

Sammie was born October 24, 1949 in Akron, daughter to Sam and Birdie Akers, who, along with her husband Gene R. Hailey Jr., preceded her in death. She attended Kenmore High School. She loved reading and being with family and friends. Surviving are two sons, Samuel C. Hailey (Timothy Applegate), Gabriel A. (Angie) Hailey, sister, Connie L. (Buff) Lucas; granddaughters Genna, Havynn, and Lacie Hailey; long time friend and companion, Shirley Danforth; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. on December 11, 2014.⁴

He was survived by his wife, Linda Blair Mounce, whom he married on July 17th, 1989, in Daytona Beach, Florida; five sons, Brandon Mounce of Somerset, Kentucky, James Mounce of York, South Carolina, Daniel Mounce of Rock Hill, South Carolina, and Chad Ray Mounce and Nathaniel Mounce both of Bronston, Kentucky; a daughter, Cassandra Mounce of Bronston, Kentucky; two grandchildren, Elise Adelaide Mounce and Emma Madeline Mounce; and a host of other family and friends who mourn his passing. James was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Ruby Mounce.
