     Doris Lee Brooke Doris Lee Brooke passed away on February 10, 2014 in Berryville, Virginia. She was 83 years old. She had bravely and courageously battled lung cancer for over 3 years, outliving her doctors expectations. Doris was loved by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She was known by all to be a loving, kind, and generous woman. Doris was born and raised in Wiley Ford, West Virginia. At 18 she went to Washington, D.C. to find a job with the federal government. She worked at Quantico with the Marines, at the Office of Personnel Management and ultimately retired from N.A.S.A. Doris attended the launching of the first space shuttle, having worked tirelessly on the budget for the entire space shuttle program. Doris loved working outside with her flowers and garden. She also enjoyed her stain glass work, she ensured that each of her nieces and nephews were left with a stain glass lamp to remember her by. Her sense of humor, her strength and her determination will be remembered when each of us look at the lamps she has left us. Doris was preceded in death by her sisters, Margaret Johnston, Leona Watson, Nancy Buser and Gladys Doyle; and her brother, William Brooke. She is survived by her nieces Lorie O'Donnell, Debbie Ikirt, Amy Kouch, Barbara Dipasquali, Martha Elliot, Shirley McVey, Carol Gay and Doris Pettrone; and many, many adoring great nieces and nephews. Dewease reportedly called members of the Blacksburg Life Saving Crew on Friday requesting help, saying that something was wrong with his wife. When crew members arrived, they found Mrs. Dewease dead. A local medical examiner was called who ordered the body sent to Radford for an, autopsy. Radford Hospital authorities then ordered the body be sent to the State Medical Examiners office for further study. The state medical examiner told local authorities that the woman had died from massive internal injuries. She had arrived in Blacksburg by bus and took taxi to her home about an hour prior to her death. on June 8, 1967.4
