Frank Hendrick DeWease Jr. married Ann Mae Tokos.8,9 Frank Hendrick DeWease Jr. was born on August 6, 1934 at Blacksburg, Virginia.3,4,5 He married Ella J. Unknown on May 6, 1961 at Baltimore, Maryland.5 Frank Hendrick DeWease Jr. and Ella J. Unknown were divorced on February 4, 1963 at Hampton, Virginia.5 Frank Hendrick DeWease Jr. A suspect in the Dec. 4 murder attempt on J. Patrick Graybeal was arrested Dec. 13 between this small coal town and Grundy, the county seat of Buchanan County. Arrested and charged with "felonious assault with the intent to maim, disfigure, disable and kill" was Frank Hendrick Dewease Jr., 39, from Long Shop. Dewease, paroled Nov. 29 from a 20 year murder conviction, reportedly was arrested by state troopers. Dewease, since his parole, had been employed by the State Highway Department office in Buchanan County. State officers refused comment late Friday on a report that they had planned to or in fact did take Dewease, before he was arrested, to Wytheville for a polygraph, or lie detector, examination. Graybeal lost both of his hands and sustained severe injuries to his eyes when he picked up a planted bomb off the hood of his station wagon just before midnight Dec. 4. He is listed as "improving rapidly" at Montgomery County Hospital, and plans are underway for him to be transferred to another medical facility for physical therapy and fitting of artificial limbs. No definite decision has been made, however." Dewease was sentenced to 20 years in April of 1968 for the June 2; 1967 slaying of his wife, Ann Mae Dewease. Dr. Jeffrey T. Mann, then Virginia State Medical Examiner, testified at that trial that Mrs. Dewease died of massive internal, injuries or strangulation, or both. Based on Dr. Mann's testimony, Commonwealth's Attorney Graybeal maintained Mrs. Dewease could only have lived a few minutes following her injuries and sought a first degree murder conviction. Dewease said he did no harm to his wife and that she arrived home June 2, L967 from a 13 hour bus trip from Baltimore, Md., saying she had been in an automobile wreck but would not require a physician. Dewease claimed he called the Blacksburg Rescue Squad and when they arrived his wife was dead. Prior to his trial Dewease kept pictures of his wife posted on his cell wall at Montgomery County jail and continued to profess his innocence and love for his wife. Investigators in the Graybeal case refuse all comment on the matter, but it is believed Dewease was a suspect from the very beginning. The investigators also looked into possible links between the bombing and the recent grand jury probe into the activities of the Blacksburg Police Department and "related matters." They also looked into a connection between drug traffic in the Blacksburg area and the attempt on Graybeal's life. The special grand jury still is meeting. Dewease was brought to Montgomery County early Friday morning, photographed, and immediately transferred under heavy guard-to the city jail at Roanoke. No bond or preliminary hearing date had been set late Monday. The arrest resulted from the combined investigative efforts of the Department of State Police, State® Arson Investigator's Office, Montgomery County Sheriff's Department, and Christiansburg Police Department. Technical assistance was rendered by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and by the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms. on December 18, 1973.10 He married Deborah Jean Eddleton on April 8, 1979 at Richmond, Virginia.4 Frank Hendrick DeWease Jr. and Deborah Jean Eddleton were divorced on January 8, 1987 at Southampton Co., Virginia.5
