He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War of which he was a recipient of a Purple Heart and a Korean War medal. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Welcher Sr. and Nellie Cole Aldhizer. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Dotty; four daughters, Bonny Carr of Marietta, Ga., Terry Ann Purcell of Ormond Beach, Fla., Vicki Cole of Tallahassee, Fla., and Pam Wooten of Jupiter, Fla; two brothers, H.T. Aldhizer of Vero Beach, Fla., and Jerry Aldhizer of Goodview, Va; sister, Judy Poff of Salem, Va; and 11 grandchildren. Funeral mass was 11 a.m. Monday, February 16, 2004 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Arrangements by Volusia Memorial Funeral Homes, Ormond Beach, Fla. on February 19, 2004.4
