     Sylvia Geraldine "Gerry" Shively was buried at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, 5737 Airport Road NW, Roanoke, Virginia.¹ She was born on October 28, 1936 at Franklin Co., Virginia.¹ She married Bobby Ray Aldridge, son of Velmer Dewey "Slim" Aldridge and Mary Mattie Smith, on June 21, 1958.^3,4,1,2 As of June 21, 1958,her married name was Aldridge.⁴ Sylvia Geraldine "Gerry" Shively died on April 4, 2015 at Virginia at age 78.¹ She Geraldine (Gerry) S. Aldridge, of Roanoke, Va., passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2015. She was born in Franklin County to the late Garfield and Dorothy Shively on October 28, 1936. She was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Hughes.Gerry was a member of New Life Christian Ministries. She held several positions in the church, namely, Deaconess, Sunday School Recording Secretary, Director of Women's Ministries, Secretary-Treasurer of the Womens's Ministries and coordinated many meals for families of the deceased.She served the Appalachian Conference Women's Ministries as a board member and secretary-treasurer.Gerry retired from the City of Roanoke after serving 34 years as Secretary to the City Manager. She loved God, family, church and the City of Roanoke organization.Left to cherish her memory are her devoted husband of 56 years, Bobby Aldridge; daughter, Sharon Parker and husband, Glenn; son, John Aldridge and wife, Kathy; grandchildren, Brooke Parker, Alex Parker and wife, Jordan, Jackson Aldridge, Abigail Aldridge, and Amelia Aldridge; brothers, Johnny Shively and wife, Beth, and Richard Shively and wife, Karen; brother-in-law, Billy Aldridge and wife, Margaret; and several nieces and newphews and friends too numerous to mention.The family would like to offer a special thanks to the staff at Gentle Shepherd Hospice for the exceptional care provided for Gerry and the Aldridge family.Funeral Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 2015, at New Life Christian Ministries, 5745 Airport Road by Pastors Walter L. Clay Conner and his wife, Christi, of Georgetown, Ky; great-grandsons, Adam Gregory and Grayson Conner Holland, Michael Christopher and Kevin Edward Mabery; great-granddaughters, Olivia Carol and Campbell Grace Conner. Her sister-in-law, Lorraine Alderman; her son-in-law, Edward Mabery and his wife, Doris; several nieces and nephews in Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, and New Jersey; and special friends, Margie and Roger Shortt, Hansel Robertson, Robert and Lucille Miles also survive her.The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until noon on Friday, February 20, 2015, at the Maberry Funeral Home, Floyd, with service immediately following with the Reverend Darlene Marshall officiating. Surviving are her husband, Walter Thomas “Tommy” Wood of Grottoes; a sister, Betty Peters Damron, Vinton; a brother and sister-in-law, Russell L. and Judy Peters, Daleville; and several nieces and nephews. A service will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, February 15, 1997, at the Chapel of McDow Funeral Home, Waynesboro, by the Rev. Derwood Cowan. Burial will follow in Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Crimora. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, February 14, 1997 at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
