Beckelheimer, Hazel Beckelheimer, C.R. Beckelheimer, Hallie Beckelheimer and Mary Helen Beckelheimer. She is survived by a son-in-law, Harold D. Akers and his wife, Barbara of Christiansburg; grandchildren, Martha Lynn Akers of Purcellville, Va., H. David Akers and his wife, Debbie of Christiansburg; great-grandson, Tanner Austin Akers of Christiansburg; three nieces and five nephews; and also numerous great-nieces and great-nephews and cousins from around the country. The family would like to express special thanks to Marietta Hanks and to all our close friends and extended family who have been so faithful in visiting and helping during this difficult time. Interment to follow in Sunset Cemetery. on April 27, 2003.3

Retired from the United States Postal Service, he was an honorary member of the Christiansburg Fire Department and served in the Air Force. In over 30 years with the postal service, he worked on the railroad, in the downtown Christiansburg office and as a rural mail carrier. After his retirement, he served as a magistrate for Montgomery County. A life-long resident of Christiansburg, he was a member of the Christiansburg Fire Department for 46 years, serving as secretary-treasurer for 26 years. During his time in fire services, he served as the Secretary of the Virginia State Firefighters Association for 26 years and he was Past President of the Southwest Virginia Firefighters Association. He was also a member of the Christiansburg Hunting Club and the Montgomery County Game and Fish Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, George L. (Fess) and Blanche Myers Akers; his wife, Eulene Wilson Akers; his mother-in-law, Hilda B. Wilson; his brother, Freddie L. Akers; his stepdaughter, Debra Myers; and stepson, John Keith Midkiff. Survivors include wife, Barbara Midkiff Akers; daughter, Martha Lynn Akers; son, (Harold) David Akers Jr; daughter-in-law, Debbie Price Akers; grandson, Tanner Akers; stepson, Eddie Midkiff, his wife, Vicki; granddaughter, Tracy Litton; grandson, G. E. Midkiff; four great-grandchildren; sister, Janice Akers Jones; brother, (L. J.) Jack Akers; sister-in-law, Martha G. Akers; nieces and nephews, Cindy Porterfield Hawley, Barry Akers, Lori Jones Parry, Laura Ellen Via; and his caregivers who cared and comforted him as family, Mary Kilby, Ann Mills, and Happy Tolbert. Burial at Sunset Cemetery, in Christiansburg. on March 6, 2020.3

Alvin Lee Hale Alvin Lee Hale, 91, of Christiansburg, passed away Thursday, February 12, 2026. He was born on September 1, 1934 in Floyd, VA to the late Irvin and Vallie Hale. He was a hardworking man who made a career in police work. He served 32 years on the Christiansburg Police Department, retiring there as Chief of Police in 1990. After retirement he worked part time for the Mongomery County VA Sheriff’s Department until 2009. Alvin was very principled, fair, and had a huge heart. He was always ready to help anyone in need, especially his family. Alvin was also very active in the Lions Club in Christiansburg. When he was not working, he was always tinkering with something or taking care of his lawn. He was from the generation where you did not go out and buy something, you fixed what was broken. Alvin’s wife, Nancy, preceded him in death. They were both active members of Christiansburg Church of Christ. He is also preceded in death by his infant son, Jerry Wayne Hale, and brother in law Guy Ellett. He is survived by his children, Debbie Hale, Donna Marshall (Randy), Cindy Faulconer (Don), and Darrell Hale (Cindy); grandchildren, Adam Collins (Katie), Matthew Collins (Kathy), Stacey Pizzino (Jason), Alyssa Berryman (Monty), Jack Faulconer (Jessica), Sam Faulconer, Charlie Faulconer, Ethan Hale and Jacob Hale; 12 great grandchildren; and sisters, Gerlene Conner (Macle) and Juanita Ellett. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.6 He was buried at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, 2880 North Franklin Street, Christiansburg, Montgomery Co., Virginia.6 He was born on September 1, 1934 at Floyd Co., Virginia.2,4,8,6 He married Nancy Irene Bishop on July 4, 1954 at Cambria, Montgomery Co., Virginia.2,9,5 Alvin Lee Hale died on February 12, 2026 at Christiansburg, Montgomery Co., Virginia, at age 91.6

Nancy loved everybody and everybody loved Nancy. She loved cooking for her family and friends as well as taking care of them, which she did so well. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg. on April 28, 2012.2
