James Melvin Walker Jr. James Melvin “Jimmy” Walker, Jr., 73, went home to meet the Lord Monday, May 6, 2019. He was born in Roanoke, VA to the late James M. Walker Sr. and Kathleen Elmore Walker. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force, was a long-time member of Hickory United Methodist Church, and was a member of the N.R.A. and Richmond Volunteer Militia. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 50 years, Peggy Walker; children, Kim Lassiter and her husband, Bill, Kevin Walker and his wife, Michelle, and Kelly Johnson and her husband, Jeremiah; eight grandchildren, Kayla Goodson and her husband, Danny, Miranda Lassiter, Alexis Walker, Addison Walker, Abigail Walker, Corbin Lass, Joseph Johnson, and Laura Johnson; and one great-grandchild, Rylee Goodson. Also left are his sisters, Bonnie Walker Payne and her husband Bill, and Sue Walker Saenz and her husband David. In addition, there are numerous nieces and nephews to remember him fondly. Above all else, Jim was passionate about spending time with his family, especially his grandkids. He was all about outdoor activities including camping, fishing, shooting, and hunting. Everyone who knew him well called him “Dr. Doolittle” because of his special relationship with all things furry or fluffy. Another well-known name for Jim was “Mr. Fix-It”. There was nothing that couldn’t be fixed by a tool in his hand. As a proud member of the U.S. Air Force, he had a love for his country that ran very deep. His pride for his son, granddaughter, and grandson who chose to follow in his patriotic footsteps through military service was immeasurable. He will be laid to rest at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk, VA.3 He was buried at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milner Road, Suffolk, Virginia.3,4 He was born on July 25, 1945 at Roanoke, Virginia.3,4,5,6 He married Margaret Herrick "Peggy" Cullen on November 30, 1968 at Fredericksburg, Virginia.1,6 James Melvin Walker Jr. died on May 6, 2019 at Virginia at age 73.3,4
