Ersel Adam Manning Sr. was born on November 2, 1929 at Floyd Co., Virginia.^1,8 He married Mildred Juanita Stewart, daughter of John Sidney Stewart and Clyde Willis, on January 7, 1950 at Floyd Co., Virginia.^1,9,3 Ersel Adam Manning Sr. died on August 23, 2013 at Virginia at age 83.⁴ He Ersel Adam Manning Sr., 83, of Copper Hill, went peacefully home to be with his Lord on Friday, August 23, 2013. He worked for the Virginia Department of Transportation for over 40 years, serving as a Superintendent. Mr. Manning was a dedicated member of Copper Hill Church of the Brethren where he served as a deacon. He was a member of the Check Ruritan Club for numerous years having served as club president for many years, and he served on the Farm Bureau Board. After his retirement, he and his wife, Juanita, farmed together for several years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Mildred "Juanita" Manning and his parents, Hettie and Volly Manning. He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Jean and Ed Miller of Christiansburg, Cindy and Lee Beckner of Copper Hill, Teresa and David Ingram of Copper Hill; one son and daughter-in-law, Ersel Jr. and Sandra Manning of Floyd; Also surviving are eleven grandchildren and spouses, Lisa and Brad St. Clair, Eddie and Jessica Miller, Amie and Bobby Maxwell, Joshua Manning, Kristina and Chuck Cromer, Matthew, Jason, and Bryan Beckner, Wayne and Brandi Ingram, Kassie Ingram, and Jordan Ingram. He has been blessed by eight great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter. He is also survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Ilene and Arthur Conner and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Vester and Alma Lou Manning and Joseph and Gertie Manning. The family wishes to thank Carilion Hospice and caregivers Angela Linkous and Dulinda Bender. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday, August 26, 2013 at Copper Hill Church of the Brethren with the Rev. Marty Moyer, and the Rev. Maurice Wright officiating. Interment will follow at Restvale Cemetery. Friends may call after 6 p.m. on Sunday at Gardner Funeral Home where the family will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Arrangements are being handled by Gardner Funeral Home, Floyd. on August 25, 2013.⁴

First, I desire that all my just debts and Furnal [sic] expences be paid out of My Estate -
Secondly, I give to my Beloved Wife Mary, a certain portion of my Farm bounded as followes to wit - (description of metes and bounds) - I allso give her privlege of cutting timber on annex of my land for her own use. I allso geve to my wife Mary, Three Hundred Dollars in Money, and one Horse, and one two-horse Wagon and harness for the same - one Milch Cow and I allso give to my wife Mary two head of sheep and two head of hogs and two Beads and Furniture for the same - one press sideboard, Beaum and Frank. One cooking Stove and and Vessels for the same. Wheels and Reel. One side saddle and Bridle. The above named property and Money is to be hers so long as She Remains my Widow. I give unto Balsora Richards one Dollar.
Thirdly - I give to Delpha Vest, James Martin's heirs, and Moses Martin, Tabitha Graham, Syntha Lawrence, William Martin, Jr and Letica Hale heirs with the Exception of Jeremiah Hale, who is to have One Dollar as his part, the above named parties is to Shear Eaqual in My Estate.
Fourthly - I gave to Tempey Forgerson my Daughter ten Dollars out of my Estate and no more -
Fifthly - I give unto Isaac Martin, my son, One Dollar and no more.
Sixthly - I gave unto Vilaann Hale, my Daughter, Fifty Dollars and no more.
Seventhly - I gave Catharine Simons, my GrandDaughter, Daughter of Letha Simons, Desd, ten Dollars and no more.
Eightly - I give unto Burwell Wimmer, my GranSon, the son of Louise Wimmer, my Daughter One Dollar and no More.
Ninthly - After My Deseace I desire that my Estate Real and personly including dets due and Money on hand and all person propertys what so every owened by me, not heretofore disposed of by me, sold by my executors hereinafter mentioned.
Tenthly - I do hereby appoint my Friends, Noah B. Moore and Moses Martin my son my Executors to carry out my last Will and Testament hereby revoking all others Wills or Testaments hereto before made by me -- in Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 31st day of January 1879.

She was the widow of Joseph D. Sowers who preceeded her to the grave about 22 years ago. She leaves seven children tio mourn her sad death, namely Frazier T. Sowers, Archie F. Sowers, Posey I. Sowers and Harlie D. Sowers, Mrs. J. K. Cole, Rufus Burke, Mrs. Other Martin and 33 grandchildren and 22 step-grandchildren and 22 step-greatgrandchildren and most of them attended her burial. She was paralyzed about the 8th of Jan and gradually grew weaker, but would ____ up part of the time until about two weeks before she died and she got too weak to be taken up anymore.
Her funeral was preached by Eld. L. S. Moran and J. H. Cummings and her remains were laid to rest in the Red Oak Grove cemetery...
