Porter, her son Michael D. Porter, her brother Bernard Shockey, and her sister Jessie Shockey. Mildred grew up in Fayetteville, West Virginia. She graduated from Fayetteville High School and attended one year of college at Virginia Tech. Mildred was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. She worked until she was 79 years old at Oak Tree Nursing Home. Surviving children and their spouses: Charles A. and Carolyn Porter, Karen Rollins, Sandra L. (Pam) and Johnny Johnston, and James R. Porter; Surviving grandchildren and their spouses: Charles E.(Scottie) and Missi Porter, Robert D. and Kathy Porter, Angela D. Porter, Aimee R. and James Ray, Dani Rollins-Earnest and Danny Earnest, James (Jimmy) Porter, Sean Rollins, Christopher Johnston, Andy Porter, Savannah Porter, and Evan Porter; Surviving great grandchildren: Jonathan Porter, Brandon Ray, Jacob Wilkins, Zachary Porter, Noah Ray, Isaac Porter, and Eldridge Porter. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Fred D. Snell and a daughter, Sharon Housler. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens near Harrisonburg. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1920-H Medical Ave., Harrisonburg, Va. 22801. on January 4, 2004.2

He had served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He worked for the U.S. Past Office and later worked for the Los Angeles Times for 35 years. He was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He moved to Harrisonburg three years ago and attended Asbury United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Lois M. Creger; two sons, Leo C. Creger III of Oxnard, Calif., and Phillip Creger of Mount Pleasant, S.C; a daughter, Christine Palmer of Prescott, Ariz; a brother, Robert Creger of Richmond; two sisters, Ruth Snell of Grottoes and Salena Winterbottom of Belton, Mo; and six grandchildren. on October 7, 1987.3

Mrs. Creger was born and raised in California graduating with a degree in Radiologic Technology. She was the Director of Radiology at Lancaster Community Hospital for over 20 years before retiring and moving to Harrisonburg, Virginia. She later went back to work as a Mammography Imaging Technician at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg until retiring a second time and moving to Mt. Pleasant, SC to be closer to family. Mrs. Creger, a dedicated mother and grandmother who was active in the community, her church and Meals on Wheels. She was also an avid gardener and loved to travel both locally and internationally. Mrs. Creger was married to the "love of her life" Leo Clyde Creger, Jr. on August 23, 1943 until Mr. Creger passed away on October 3, 1987. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Patricia Ann Creger. Surviving are: her children, Christine L. Grill (Damion) of Prescott, Arizona, Leo C. Creger, III (Diane) of Camarillo, California and Phillip W. Creger (Alexandra "Sandra") of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina; her six grandchildren: Leo C. Creger, IV of Hawaii, John R. Creger (Renee) of California, Heather D. Creger (K.D.) of Missouri, Christopher P. Creger (Rachel) of New Jersey, Stephanie A. Creger, of South Carolina and Alexander W. Creger of North Carolina. Also surviving is one brother, George Adair (California). Interment will be at a later date at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens, Harrisonburg, Virginia where her husband is buried.1 She was buried at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens, 3289 Spotswood Trail, Harrisonburg, Rockingham Co., Virginia.2,1 She was born on June 30, 1925 at Compton, Los Angeles Co., California.1 As of August 23, 1943,her married name was Creger.1 She married Leo Clyde Creger Jr., son of Leo Clyde Creger Sr. and Ocie Emaline Shockey, on August 23, 1943.1 Lois May Adair died on May 4, 2019 at Mount Pleasant, Charleston Co., South Carolina, at age 93.1

Paul Binford Shockey Sr. was buried at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, 5233 Rocky Fork Road, Cross Lanes, Kanawha Co., West Virginia.10,5 He was born on July 29, 1928 at Fayetteville, Fayette Co., West Virginia.5,6 He married Yoshiko "Yoshi" Hata in 1949 at Tokyo, Japan.2,11 Paul Binford Shockey Sr. died on June 11, 2014 at Charleston, Kanawha Co., West Virginia, at age 85.10,5 He Paul Shockey Sr., 85, of Nitro, went home to be with the Lord and his wife, Yoshi, on June 11, 2014, at Hubbard Hospice House after a courageous battle with cancer. Paul was an Army veteran and retired from Union Carbide, Institute, with 35 years of service. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Yoshiko Shockey; his parents, Walter and Audrey Shockey; sisters, Mildred Smith and June Blackwelder; and brother, Lewis Shockey. Surviving are his son, Paul Shockey Jr. and Pam of Cross Lanes; daughter, Kay Little and Ray of Dry Fork; and sisters, Shirley King and Don of Richmond, Va., and Sarah Martin of Warner Robins, Ga. Paul had six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Paul was a member of Fairview Methodist Church, Tyler Mountain. The interment will follow at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens. on June 13, 2014.10

She was a lifelong member of the Fayetteville Baptist Church. She loved the outdoors and was an avid gardener who loved to grow flowers and watch the birds, which she always kept well fed. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Claude B. “Bun” Smith, to whom she was married in 1948; a brother, Lewis Shockey; and a sister, June Blackwelder. Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Keith Smith and wife, Marsha, of Beckley, W.Va; a grandson, Jarrod Smith and wife, Audrey, and their son, Jon, of Beckley, W.Va; a brother, Paul Shockey and wife, Yoshi, of Charleston, W.Va; sisters, Sarah Martin and husband, Calvin, of Georgia and Shirley King and husband Don of Virginia; and all her special family and friends. Burial will follow at Huse Memorial Park in Fayetteville, W.Va. on April 27, 2009.2
