     Uthalee Conner Uthalee Hicks, 87, formerly of Lake Milton, passed away peacefully, Sunday, April 2, 2023 at St. Mary’s Alzheimer’s Center, with her family by her side. Uthalee, affectionately known as “Sissy”, was born in Princewick, West Virginia on April 20, 1935 and was the daughter of Donzie Clay and Beulah Meadows Conner. Sissy attended Shady Springs School in West Virginia with her 10 siblings. Prior to retirement she was a hairdresser. She was a member of the Lake Milton Baptist Temple. Sissy loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren & great grandchildren. She also enjoyed water skiing, camping, gardening, playing cards, baking and cooking. If she knew you were coming to visit you’d find your “favourite”, made fresh & waiting to send home with you. Sissy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 59 years, Orlie Kenneth Hicks and her siblings, Harlan Conner, Csea Conner, Marie Marshall and Nadine Costa and an infant sister. She leaves to cherish her memory her children: Venita Collins (Roger) of Lake Milton, and Katrena Hicks of Austintown. Sisters: Janet (Dane) Riffe of PA, Susie Butler of NC, Sandy Payne of TX, Yvonne (Les) Hatcher of NC, Diane Cottle of WV, and Debbie McNamara of AL and brother in law Joe Costa of AL. Four Grandchildren: Desiree (Richard) Lehman of Lake Milton, OH, Robert Collins (Megan Ferrall) of Mogadore, OH, Courtney Collins (Jack Breslin) of Jersey City, NJ, and Kristie (Charles) Pittle of El Paso, TX, and seven great-grandchildren, Jackson, Leon, Arianna, Arabella, Avalise, Adeline and Evelyn.⁹ She was born on April 20, 1935 at Princewick, Raleigh Co., West Virginia.^2,10,9 As of September 20, 1952,her married name was Hicks.² She married Orlie Kenneth Hicks on September 20, 1952 at Green Sulphur, Summers Co., West Virginia.^5,2,10,3,4,9 Uthalee Conner died on April 2, 2023 at Columbiana, Ohio, at age 87.⁹

Hicks, who passed away Sunday afternoon at St. Elizabeth Medical Center. Orlie was born January 7, 1926 in Green Sulfur Springs, WV a son of the late Charles H. and Lura E. (Hedrick) Hicks. He served as a Staff Sergeant in World War II and came to Lake Milton in 1950. He was employed at General Motors and retired in 1990. Orlie attended Cleveland University on the G.I. Bill and received a degree in Agriculture and Conservation. He also received a degree in television and radio repair and was a licensed Real Estate Broker and Auctioneer. He was a Charter member of the American Legion Lake Milton Post 737, where he served as an honor guard. He also was a 32nd degree Mason in the Newton Falls Masonic Lodge for 40 years. Orlie was an advocate of wildlife and conservation and an enthusiastic member of the Mahoning County Coon Hunters Protective Association since 1966. He was a longtime member of the Lake Milton Baptist Temple, and loved hunting, fishing, camping, and tending his orchard and gardening. Orlie leaves his wife of 58 years, the former Uthalee Conner, whom he married September 20, 1952; two daughters: Katrena L. Hicks and Venita (Roger) Collins, both of Lake Milton; two sisters: Bonnie J. Sutton of Waynesville, NC and Devota S. Shumate of Madison, IN; five grandchildren: Kristie Lee (Charles) Pittle of El Paso, TX, Courtney Lee (Brian) Yost of Jersey City, NJ, and Desiree Lee Collins, Robert Lee Collins, and Damien Lee Collins all of Lake Milton; one great grandson: Jackson Lee Pittle of El Paso, TX; his sister-in-law: Nellie Hicks of Diamond; and many loving nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Orlie was preceded in death by six sisters: Martha Hicks, Alice Fox, Violet Miller, Grace Holland, Ova France and Joy Foster and seven brothers: Boone, John L., Byron, Joseph, Clatys, Virgil and Clyde G. Hicks.      Nadine Conner was buried at Phillips Cemetery, 769 Old Cline Road, Cool Ridge, Raleigh Co., West Virginia.³ She Nadine C. Costa, age 73, of Greencastle, passed away July 2, 2015 at home after a lengthy illness. She was born March 14, 1942 in Beckley, WV to Donzie and Beula (Meadows) Conner. She was married to Joseph Costa in 1964. Nadine had been an insurance underwriter until her retirement. Nadine will be fondly remembered by family and friends as a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her husband, Joseph A. Costa and their two sons: Anthony M. (husband of Megan) Costa of Greencastle and Christopher J. (husband of Andi) Costa of Chambersburg. Nadine has five grandchildren: Ryan, Cody, Emily, Joe and Macey. She is also survived by eight sisters: Uthlee Hicks of Lake Milton, Oh, Janet Riffe of Jumping Branch, WV, Arista Butler of Iron Station, NC, Marie Marshall of Cool Ridge, WV, Diana Cottle of Grandview,WV, Sandra Walko, Wichita Falls, TX, Yvonne Hatcher, Beckley, WV, and Debra McNamara of Pinson, AL. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant sister, Jeri, two brothers, Harlen & CE Conner.⁴ She was born on March 14, 1942 at Beckley, Raleigh Co., West Virginia.^3,4 As of October 24, 1964,her married name was Costa.⁵ She married Joseph Anthony "Joe" Costa on October 24, 1964 at Windber, Somerset Co., Pennsylvania.^2,3,4,7,5 Nadine Conner died on July 2, 2015 at Greencastle, Franklin Co., Pennsylvania, at age 73.^3,4

He was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, Beckley, and received a bachelor's degree in business administration from Concord College, Athens. Surviving: wife, Diana Conner Cottle; sons, Marc of Pittsburgh, Eddie Joe Jr. of Hawaii; daughters, Jennifer Cottle at home, Monica Rochester of Corpus Christi, Texas; brothers, Jack Cottle of Beaver, Buddy Cottle of Daniels; three grandchildren. Marshall, age 75, of Cool Ridge, WV, passed away at her home on Saturday, November 28, 2015. Born on April 7, 1940, in Beckley, she was the daughter of the late Donzie Conner and Beulah Meadows Conner. Mrs. Marshall was a retired LPN, retiring from Appalachian Regional Hospital in Beckley. She was a former member of the Cool Ridge Missionary Baptist Church. Mrs. Marshall enjoyed singing in church, baking, and making holiday specials for her family. She was a loving mother and grandmother, who always put her family first. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Marshall, by two brothers Harlan Conner and C.E. Conner, by a sister, Nadine Costa, and also by an infant sister. Those survivors left to cherish her memory include her children: Gary Marshall and his wife Rose of Cool Ridge, and Alan Marshall of Cool Ridge.
