Russell Roscoe Schoonover, 90 of Roanoke, passed away peacefully to be with his Lord and family in Heaven on Thursday, February 26, 2026. He was a loving, hardworking, dedicated husband with a great sense of humor and smile. He loved his family and his cat “Reggie Boy”. Roscoe worked at several gas stations in the early years then spent many years detailing and cleaning cars at Fulton Motor Company until he retired. In his retirement years, he enjoyed mowing/maintaining his yard, playing his harmonicas along with his wife, Mary and her guitar. They played at several churches, Salem Senior Center and Nursing Homes in the area. He and Mary loved meeting friends and seeing staff at McDonalds for breakfast several times a week for many years. Survived by his wife of 68 years, Mary Cronk Schoonover; daughter, Terrie Schoonover Brogan (Marshall); son, Russell “Rusty” Schoonover; grandsons, Jacob Brogan, Montana Brogan (Lexi), Joshua Schoonover (Emily) and Tyler Schoonover; brother, Gerald Schoonover; sister-in-law; Ruth Jean Cronk along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers, and three sisters. Graveside service at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.¹
