Layman, 76, of Salem, Va., went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, May 8, 2023. She was born on November 27, 1946, to the late Everett Delauder and Edith Delauder of Belington, W.Va. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie Layman. Rosalie is survived by her daughter, Dixie Greer (Steven) of Salem; grandchildren, Justin Hogan and Aaron Hogan; sisters, Wilma Jean Morgan (Charles) of Mt.      Gary Keenan Greer Gary Keenan Greer, age 79 of Salem passed away on Thursday, September 25, 2025. He was born July 30, 1946, son of the late Donald and Hazel Greer. He owned and operated his own sheet metal business of over 40 years, he was the primary vendor for Walker Foundry, Lewis Gale Hospital and Valleydale Foods. He was a graduate of Jefferson Senior High School in 1964. He had a creative spirit, having made the 1st star that was used on New Years Eve at the City market. He volunteered with Southwest Virginia Wildlife Center. He was a huge lover of all animals and had many of his own, especially cats. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Sharon Layman Greer; daughter, Dawn R. Miller and husband, Jake; their children, Jacob M. Dalton (Kayla), Emily G. I. Dalton, Isaac D. Miller (Kaiti), Sue-Anna D. Dalton, Mark K. Miller and Mathew M. Miller and 13 great grandchildren; daughter, Lori M. Blankenship and husband Gary and their son, Hunter Blankenship.³ He was born on July 30, 1946 at Roanoke, Virginia.^3,4 He married Sharon Virginia Layman, daughter of Henry Harrison Layman and Rubye Danease Rose, circa 1988.^1,2,3 Gary Keenan Greer died on September 25, 2025 at Virginia at age 79.³

     Harry Edward Davis was buried at Sherwood Burial Park, 1045 Lynchburg Turnpike, Salem, Roanoke Co., Virginia.³ He was born on December 17, 1898 at Rowley, Buchanan Co., Iowa.³ He married Ann Elizabeth "Annie" Ridinger, daughter of Henry Jahile Ridinger and Cleopatra Albertine "Pattie" Jett, on February 21, 1942 at New Castle, Craig Co., Virginia.² Harry Edward Davis died on October 3, 1958 at Roanoke, Virginia, at age 59.³

     Phillip Thornton Layman Phillip Thornton Layman, May 4, 1960 - May 18, 2020. Phillip Thornton Layman, 60, of Roanoke, passed away on Monday, May 18, 2020. Phil was a Retiree from the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union 10, where he worked for 40 years, following in his late fathers footsteps. He was a Northside High School 1978 graduate and attended Virginia Western Community College. He loved life and in his spare time would be found on his motorcycle with his wife, Donna. Preceding him in death were his father, Harry T. Layman; and brother-in-law, William S. Shelton. His surviving family includes his wife, Donna S. Layman; mother, Elma S. Layman; the one he called mother, Anna Harrison; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Walter E. and Ann T. Shelton; son, Drake Layman; stepchildren, Robert Blankenship, Ann Blankenship, and Kimberly Melton; sister, Valerie Layman Moses; and step-grandchildren, Lexie, William, Skylar, Carlie, Jossalyn, and Jonah. He was adored by his children and grandchildren. Three of his cousins, David Layman, Mary Spencer, and Rebecca Layman Kelly are given extra thanks by Phillips wife, Donna, for never leaving his side and making sure his transition to heaven was an especially peacefully one. The unconditional love shown by these three was beautiful. Phillip, you are in heaven, finally at peace. No more searching for love that should have been given to you unconditionally. Rest easy, kick back, and be pain and worry free.      David Allen Layman was born on July 21, 1978 at Montgomery Co., Virginia.² He died on December 18, 2020 at Virginia at age 42.³ He David Allen Layman, 42, of New Castle, Va., passed away on Friday, December 18, 2020. David worked as a flight attendant for Com-Air, he was extremely passionate about soaring the skies. David was an animal lover of any kind. He never met a stranger and if he did they left as friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Dorothy Buckland Layman; and brother, Jimmy Layman. He is survived by life partner, David Fridley Jr; sister, Darlene Almekinder (Kerry); brothers, Scott Lucas and Michael Layman; numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces; fur babies, Khloe and Butter. All services will be private. on December 21, 2020.³

     Halley Adams Merrell Jr. was born on July 14, 1934 at New Bern, Craven Co., North Carolina.² He married Norma Jane Arrington, daughter of Norman Leftricht Arrington and Ruby Jane Jewell, on July 14, 1956 at Norfolk, Virginia.^1,2 Halley Adams Merrell Jr. died on September 2, 2019 at Davidson, Mecklenburg Co., North Carolina, at age 85.² He Halley Adams Merrell, Jr., 85, of Davidson, NC quietly passed away on September 2, 2019. Halley was born in New Bern, NC on July 14, 1934 to Halley, Sr. and Lossie Merrell. He grew up in Norfolk, VA and put himself through college, ultimately matriculating from Virginia Tech. He married Norma Jane Arrington on July 14, 1956 thereby initiating a lifelong union with his best friend and deepest love. He worked for nearly forty years with the vast and prestigious American Chemical Society (ACS) in Washington, D.C., ultimately retiring as Secretary. Meanwhile he raised his family in Vienna, VA where he was a foot soldier in the battle for civil rights work-ng tirelessly in the 1960s to tear down racial boundaries and build relationships in the community. He was a lifelong sports fan and coached youth sports for many years. He was a huge fan of the New York Yankees and could be found at most Davidson home basketball games cheering on the Wildcats. He was deeply committed to WDAV Classical Public Radio where he frequently volunteered in support of their periodic fundraising campaigns. Mostly, he was devoted to his family. He found great joy in surrounding himself with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and he lived every day with a quip on his lips and compassion in his heart. During his final years he made deep friendships with his neighbors at The Pines in Davidson. Halley is preceded in death by his father, Halley A. Merrell Sr. and his mother Lossie Boyd Merrell. He is survived by his wife, Norma Merrell of Davidson, NC; his daughter and son-in-law Melinda Orr and Todd Orr of Durham, NC; his son Mark Merrell of Chantilly, VA; his son and daughter-in-law Matthew Merrell and Holt Hathaway of Huntersville, NC; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. on September 7, 2019.²
