Hugh Gerald McCaul1,2,3

M, b. February 13, 1967, d. June 25, 2025
Hugh Gerald McCaul Hugh McCaul, Feb 13, 1967 - Jun 25, 2025. Hugh Gerard McCaul, 58, of Troutville, VA, passed away on Wednesday, June 25, 2025. He was predeceased by his parents, Gerald and Kathleen McCaul of Roanoke, VA. He is survived by his devoted wife of 30 years, Amanda McCaul; daughter, Emily Taylor (Samuel) of Asheville, NC; daughter, Allison McCaul of Nashville, TN; siblings, Patricia Copeland of Cortlandt Manor, NY, Eileen McCaul of Roanoke, VA, Colm McCaul of Yadkinville, NC, Finula McCaul of Pittsburgh, PA, and Aideen Tenzer (Stephen) of Malvern, PA; several nieces and nephews who will miss their Uncle Hughie; and his loyal Doberman, Ruby. Hugh passed on with his son, Liam, whom he loved very much. He was a devoted father, husband, brother, uncle, and friend to many. Hugh's roots began in Haskell, New Jersey where he lived with his parents, sisters and brother; he carried many fond memories of his childhood and shared them in stories often. In his late teen years, he moved down to the Blue Ridge Mountains of Roanoke, VA where he remained for over 40 years - he never lost his New Jersey accent. He maintained a handful of close lifelong friendships and kept his family close to him always. Hugh was an avid collector, and he had many hobbies. He loved planning gameday weekends with his family and friends to watch baseball or his favorite NY Giants football team. His love for blues music was known to anyone who met him - he always had a favorite artist queued up in his truck: Joe Bonamassa, Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy, B.B. King - the list continues. He was an avid collector of old blues albums, NY sports memorabilia, Waterford Crystal, Irish pub mirrors, toy cars, and other special trinkets for his daughters, son, and wife. One of his favorite past times was stopping at an antique mall and quietly wandering the aisles for small treasures. He was a creature of habit, but his daily routine and decisions always revolved around the well-being of his family. He worked hard to build up his tile business and took personal pride in his work, always making sure everything was crafted to perfection.4 He Virginia State Police have released the names of two men killed in Botetourt County. Police say about 7:00 a.m. June 25, 2025, county deputies responded to a 911 call from a man, Liam Gerald McCaul, 23 of Nashville, who said he had killed his father, Hugh Gerard McCaul, 58 of Troutville. Deputies saw the younger man, armed, outside the home on High Ridge Circle. While working to get him to surrender, the sheriff’s office said, the suspect pointed a gun at deputies, leading deputies to shoot and kill him. State Police say a firearm was recovered at the scene of the shooting. The body of the elder McCaul was found inside the home. No deputies were injured in the incident. In accordance with Botetourt County Sheriff’s Office policy, the deputies have been placed on administrative leave while the investigation is completed. Virginia State Police are leading the investigation into the officer-involved shooting.5 He was born on February 13, 1967 at New Jersey.3,4 He married Amanda Leigh Correll, daughter of Roy Gene Correll and Phyllis Imone "Billie" Hammed, on October 1, 1994 at Roanoke, Virginia.1,2,3 Hugh Gerald McCaul died on June 25, 2025 at Botetourt Co., Virginia, at age 58.4
