Peters. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eva and Charlie Johnson; three brothers, Oliver, Jack, Tommy; and one sister, Ann Slate. She is survived by her daughter, Betty P. Bryant, of Henry; son and daughter-in-law, Roger L. and Brenda Peters, of Roanoke; grandson, Michael Bryant and wife, Belinda, of Hardy; granddaughters, Jamie Hanlon and husband, Chris, of Elizabethtown, Pa., Jodie Anthony and husband, Rob, of Baltimore, Md; five greatgranddaughters, Bridgit and Hannah Bryant and Owen, Abbie, and Claire Hanlon; brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Carolyn Johnson, of Rocky Mount, and Charles and Jamie Johnson, of Glade Hill; sister, Ethel Carter, of Wirtz. Special thanks to her wonderful roommate Ethel Eaves and to all the caring friends at Friendship Retirement Community. Our Mother retired from Ferrum College after 27 years of service. Her passion was having all her family at her home and feeding everyone who came through the door. She was the patriarch of our family keeping in daily contact with her children and siblings. Mother was a lifelong member of the First Church of the Brethren in Ferrum.      John George Turner John George Turner, 93, of Ferrum, died Monday February 16, 2015 at home. He was born on April 13, 1921, in Franklin County to the late Taylor Turner, and the late Betty Turner. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Tinie Peters Turner; brothers, Herman Turner, Russell Turner, Lester Turner, Amos Turner; sisters Alta Kitson, Clair Parrish, and Pearl Dyer. John is survived by his daughter, Shirley Smith and husband, John of Bassett; granddaughter, Rebecca Smith; great-granddaughter Addison Smith of Ferrum; sisters, Marie Nester and husband, Nelson of Henry, Nancy Delancey and husband Wilford, of Collinsville; brother Thomas Turner and wife Anna, of Rocky Mount; and several nieces and nephews. Hodges, 66, of Ferrum, went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 16, 2006 after a short battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents, James (Jim) and Bessie Peters; sister, Violet Dillon; two brothers, Melvin Peters and Herman Peters; and one nephew, Kenneth Peters. She is survived by three sons, Mitchell Hodges, Sr., Ricky Hodges, both of Ferrum, and Tony and wife, Barbara Hodges of Martinsville; two daughters, Janet Adkins and husband, Aaron of Ridgeway, and Lisa Shively and husband, Darryl of Ferrum; three granddaughters, Tabatha Cruise and friend, Stephen of Bassett and Heather and Megan Hodges of Martinsville; one grandson, Mitchell Hodges, Jr. of Martinsville; four sisters, Linda Whorley, Betty Meade and Tinie Turner, all of Ferrum, Lena Brown of Wirtz; two brothers, J.D. and Larry Peters of Bassett; several nieces and nephews; one special great-nephew, Adain Keith (her little man); special friends, Alberta and Ronnie Brown, and Louise Whorley. Funeral services will be conducted from Maple Grove United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. on June 17, 2006.⁸

She was raised in the Ferrum/Crossroads section of Franklin County and continued to reside in the county after leaving home upon her marriage to Cecil "Sike" Brown. Lena was a homemaker, a custodian at Dudley School for many years and a loving baby sitter to numerous children over the years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil "Sike" Brown; father, James McKinley Peters; mother, Bessie Smith Peters; seven sisters; three brothers. She is survived by her son, Terry Rex Brown and friend, Judy Jones; granddaughter, Amanda "Rosebud" Eanes; great grandson, Bradley Marcus Eanes; two sisters, Linda Worley, Betty Meade; brother, Larry Peters. Also surviving are her sisters-in-law, Jean Divers, Erma Anderson, Jane Brown, Frances Brown, Venie Brown; brother-in-law, Winfred Brown (Helen); numerous nephews and nieces; great nephews and great nieces; former daughter-in-law, Deborah Brown; special friend, Nancy Holland. Funeral services will be conducted 7 p.m. Thursday, May 19, 2016 at Lynch Conner Bowman Chapel with Dr. Jackie Spence officiating.      Eldridge Wayne "Pete" Peters was buried at Mountain View Cemetery, 1300 Mountain View Road, Vinton, Roanoke Co., Virginia.¹ His Social Security Number was 226-40-2052.⁶ He married Joyce Ann Unknown.¹ Eldridge Wayne "Pete" Peters was born on January 23, 1935 at Virginia.⁶ He died on November 2, 2005 at Virginia at age 70.^1,6 He Eldridge Wayne (Pete) Peters, 70, of Vinton, died of brain tumors and went home to be with the Lord on November 2, 2005. He was preceded in death by his son, Timothy Wayne Peters; parents, Thurman George and Lessie Smith Peters; sisters, Peggy Jo Tolbert and Bevie Mitchell. Pete served in the US Army, worked at AEP for 30 years, and was a member of Shenandoah Baptist Church. The family wishes to thank Gentle Shepherd Hospice for their compassion and care. Dewey was a member of Shenandoah Baptist Church and devoted his life to serving the Lord. He lived as a family man that set a positive example for others. As part of "the Greatest Generation" Dewey served in the Army during World War II. Dewey is preceded in death by his parents, Leonard Leslie Mitchell and Sina Dewey Davis Mitchell; sister, Susie Underwood; and first wife, Bevie Mae Peters Mitchell. Survivors include his wife, Juanita Mitchell; son, Gary Mitchell and wife Libby; daughter, Diane Merritt; stepdaughter, Sherry Roberts and husband Robin; grandchildren, Chuck Kirby and wife Kristi, Chris Mitchell and wife Colleen, and Carrie Mitchell; great-grandchildren, Reagan, Carson, Tommy, Amber, Ethan, Jada, and Elijah; and special sister-in-law, Garnett Wickline and husband Max.
