Mary Elizabeth Conner was buried at Lostine Cemetery, Lostine, Wallowa Co., Oregon; Her tombstone has her death date as Jun 1, 1929.4,5 She was born on July 28, 1846 at Sigourney, Keokuk Co., Iowa.1,3,4,5 As of September 27, 1865,her married name was Hearing.3 She married George Washington Hearing on September 27, 1865 at Linn Co., Oregon.3,4 Mary Elizabeth Conner died on May 29, 1929 at Medford, Jackson Co., Oregon, at age 82.3,6,4 She Funeral services were held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the Lostine Christian church for Mary Elizabeth Hearing, Wallowa County pioneer, who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Otto Dolkey near Medford, May 29, 1929. Rev. Arthur Harriman of Wallowa conducted the services. A quartet, Mrs. Orval McArtor, Mrs. Roy Haun, Roy Haun and Chas. Bridwell, sang appropriate hymns, with Mrs. S.L. Magill at the piano. Interment was in the Lostine cemetery.
Mary Elizabeth Conner was born in Sigourney, Iowa, July 28, 1846, and crossed the plains to Portland, Oregon in 1853 at the age of seven years. She was united in marriage to George Hearing in 1865. To this union were born eleven children, seven of whom are still living. The children surviving the aged mother are Mrs. Alice Bayne of Bend, Oregon; Mrs. James Leeper, Mrs. Otto Dolkey in Medford, Oregon; Mrs. George Childers, Mrs. Oliver Wood of Lostine; George Hearing of Minam, and M.V. Hearing of Wallowa. All of them were present to pay their last respects to the memory of their mother.
Mrs. Hearing was one among the early pioneers, having come to Wallowa county in 1884. She lived on a homestead, experiencing all the hardships of an unsettled land. She lived at different locations in the valley continuously for 41 years. Her husband preceded her in death April 27, 1918, and since that time she made her home with a daughter, Mrs. Otto Dolkey at Medford.
"Grandma Hearing", as she was familiarly known was loved and respected by every one who knew her having always a kind and loving word to those in sorrow.
She became a member of the Christian church at Wallowa in January, 1921, and remained faithful in death. She leaves to mourn her loss seven children, 23 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren, besides many other relatives and friends.

Jacob B. Conner was buried at Pennington Cemetery, Sigourney, Keokuk Co., Iowa.7,8,6 He was born on March 25, 1857 at Lancaster Township, Keokuk Co., Iowa.2,7,1,5,6 He married Dora Zanette Bucher, daughter of Aaron Bucher and Martha Jane Chastain, on April 6, 1884 at Keokuk Co., Iowa.7,1,5,9 Jacob B. Conner Another enterprising son of Daniel Conner, the pioneer whose lifework and achievements are recounted elsewhere in this work, was Jacob Conner, a brother of Samuel Conner, whose biography also appears herein. Jacob Conner was born March 25, 1857, in Lancaster township, Keokuk county, and has eversince made his home in the fruitful section of the Hawkeye state. His father twice married, his second wife being the mother of the subject of this record. Her name was Elizabeth Wyant and she was born in the Blue Grass state, moving however, when of tender years to Indiana. She was twice married, her first husband being a Mr. Pennington. By her first marriage she had three children, and six more were added to the flock in her union with Daniel Conner. Of these five are now living, Jacob Conner being the first born, and receiving an excellent education in the schools of Lancaster township.
He worked for his father until he reached the age of twenty-seven years, when he married Zanette Bucher, the daughter of Aaron and Martha (Chastain) Bucher, a history of whom is given in this volume. Mrs. Conner was also born in Lancaster township, Keokuk county, Iowa, on the 16th day of June, 1865, and has spent all of her life there. She received a very fine education in the common schools of the township. and from independentand study of her own selection.
After living on the old homestead about one year of his marriage, Mr. Conner and his wife located where they now live, and by his industry and good management improved and built up his farm until its appearance, efficiency and value it ranks with the best in the township. In the year 1900 he built the handsome residence now there and put into it all of the modern improvements and many convienences dictated by the taste of himself and his wife. He has also built a finely appointed barn thirty-six by sixty feet in dimensions and has constructed many other good buildings upon the farm, which consists of one hundred and sixty acres as well as some timber land.
One child, a daughter, was born to them, whom they named Mattie Elizabeth; she is still unmarried and at home, and is a very accomplished and attractive young lady. In their beautiful home Mr. Conner and his family keep abreast of the times and fully informed upon all matters. They are liberal in their views upon political and religious questions and present good examples of the progressive, prosperous and leading people of the county. Mr. Conner is in politics a Democrat; is widely known throughout his section of the state, actively participating in matters of public interest. He has been a member of the school board for several years, during which time he has contributed much to the success of the educational methods employed, an has assumed many other responsibilities in behalf of the county. in 1903.5 He died on October 19, 1936 at Sigourney, Keokuk Co., Iowa, at age 79.8,1,6
