     Mabel Elisabeth Petersen JUNCTION CITY -- Mabel Elisabeth Mayden, 85, Junction City, died Thursday, July 8, 1999, at a Junction City nursing home. Mrs. Mayden had worked for the Post Engineers in Casper, Wyo., the Army Emergency Relief Office at Camp Ellis, Ill., the University of Oregon for the League of Oregon Cities in Eugene, Ore., and for the Junction City Telephone Co. She and her husband also owned and operated Ed's Little Super Market for about 15 years, and a printing and typing service in their home for several years. She was born March 31, 1914, at Sidney, Mont., the daughter of Lars and Else Damskov Petersen. She graduated from Sidney, Mont., High School in 1931, and she attended Dickinson School of Business in Omaha, Neb. She moved to Junction City in 1945. Mrs. Mayden was a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church where she served many years as secretary. She also was a member of the Auxiliaries to the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Eagles Aerie, a lifetime member of the Junction City-Fort Riley Bowling Association, and she was inducted into the Local Bowlers Hall of Fame. She married Edward L. Mayden on Sept. 3, 1943, in Omaha, Neb. He preceded her in death July 9, 1984. Survivors include a son, Dennis Mayden, Junction City; a daughter, Deanna Wolnik, Junction City; a brother, Everett Petersen, in Oregon; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church in Junction City. Her sister, Mrs. Mary Ellen Maloney, 37, was killed instantly in the hail of bullets fired by Mrs. Hutchinson's ex husband, G. D. Hutchinson of Okmulgee, Okla. After he shot the women, Hutchinson got in his rented car and drove four blocks east on Bellevue where he stopped the car and shot himself in the head with a 45 caliber revolver. His body was found by police as they searched the area after putting out allpoints bulletin for his capture. Police said that Hutchinson’s failure to effect a reconciliation with his divorced wife apparently led to the shooting. He reportedly blamed Mrs. Maloney for keeping his ex-wife from returning to him. A typewritten unpunctuated note found pasted on the back of a phone on a nearby table and photo album in Hutchinson's rented car read: "This book has to end somewhere this is it there was no more life lived than I have I guess it had to end I have had all the glories that life has to offer but I guess I had it Hutch." Thera were only a few family photographs in the album and a large number of oil field equipment. Across a picture of one rig was scrawled “My first million.” The man flew into Tucson from Oklahoma yesterday as far as police can determine. He rented a 1957 Chevrolet at the Avis-Rent-Car agency at the airport at 11:41 p.m. yesterday. Hutchinson went to the Bellevue street home of his wife and sisterin-law at about 4:30 a.m. today. He removed his shoes at the clothesline near the back door, entered the house through the rear door and shot the two women in the living room. Officers said nearby neighbors heard screams from the dead woman's apartment about 2:30 a.m. Then, the neighbors said, they heard a man's voice saying: *Don't be afraid . . . I'm not going to do anything.” Officers theorized that Hutchinson visited the apartment at that hour, apparently left, then sneaked back to commit the slayings an hour and a half later. A 38 caliber pistol was used to kill the women. He emptied the shot pistol with four of the slugs hitting his wife. The women fell beside each other near the front door. Mrs. Maloney’s 8-year-old son, Mike, and the women’s father, James Peters, 86, were asleep in a bedroom at the house at the time of the shooting. Mike told Police Lt. John Breglia he heard "noises" which woke him up and he went into the living room where he found his mother and aunt. The grandgather is almost totally deaf and did not hear the shots. Neither the boy nor his grandfather saw Hutchinson. allthough critically wounded, Mrs. Hutchinson reached the telephone on a nearby table and called police. “ I don't want to die,” Mrs. Hutchinson is quoted as saying when Green answered. The call was traced by the telephone company and cars were immediately dispatched to the East Bellevue street address. Mrs. Hutchinson was incoherent and could not give officers the details surrounding the shooting. She did say that her husband was responsible. Officer Thomas Henderson, who rode in the ambulance to the hospital with Mrs. Hutchinson, said the woman would not answer questions as to why Hutchinson shot her and the sister. “She kept crying, he’s mad . . . he’s nuts . . . he's gone crazy." When I asked if he was her husband, she said he was and gave me his complete description — everything I wanted. “But when I asked her why he had done it, she wouldn't give an answer or she would complain about the pain. It seemed to me that she was trying not to give me the answer.” Mrs. Hutchinson went into surgery at 8 a.m. She was pronounced dead at 8:30. She suffered wounds of the left wrist (broken by the slug), upper and lower left chest and upper left arm. The bullet which entered the lower chest pierced the stomach, liver and diaphragm , then lodged in the back chest cavity wall. Both women were fully dressed at the time of the killing despite the early hour. Police said they, along with the boy and their father, were to leave today to move to Oklahoma. Partially filled suitcases were all over the small house leading officers to believe the women were up early to pack in preparation for the trip. When Mr. Hutchinson identified her divorced husband as the killer, officers were sent to the airport, train depot and bus station to stop him from leaving town. Roadblocks manned by the police and sheriffs office were also established. Police Officer James Freeman was searching the area for Hutchinson when he came upon his rented car parked on a vacant lot across from 4121 E. Bellevue St. Hutchinson was slumped over the steering wheel dead of a head wound. The .45 slug passed through his head and went through the roof of the car. The suicide weapon and the .38 pistol used to shoot the women were both in the car. On the coffee table in the living room of the home located at the rear of 3819 E. Bellevue St. was a telegram to Mrs. Hutchinson sent yesterday from Okmulgee, Okla. It was signed “G. D. Hutchinson.” The telegram read. "I am leaving here day after tomorrow. If you plan on coming any ways soon will stay and straighten out our taxes. If not, let me know at once.” According to a brother-in-law of the dead women, E. A. Bennie Benson of Phoenix, the Hutchinson's were divorced about three months ago in Oklahoma. Benson's wife was the dead women’s sister. Contacted in Phoenix, Benson said, "He was bothering her all the time . . . following her. She went to Los Angeles to visit her sister and then went to Tucson.” “As far as I can understand, he (Hutchinson) had detectives following her and he was following her.” Hutchinson was in the oil and cattle business in Oklahoma. Mrs. Hutchinson herself had oil leases, he said. Max Klinger of Tucson. Hutchinson’s former partner in oil drilling ventures in Oklahoma, said Hutchinson and his divorced wife visited him about six weeks ago. “They came out to our new home at 4710 Camino Escuela and stayed about an hour. They didn’t talk about anything personal, but I think he was attempting to effect a reconciliation with his wife." Hutchinson was a quiet-spoken man who rarely lost his temper. He had apparently been living in Oklahoma most of the time since we split up the partnership more than a year ago,” Klinger added. Mrs. Maloney and her son live in Los Angeles according to Benson. They were evidently visiting Mrs. Hutchinson at her Bellevue street home. "Her husband (Mrs. Maloney's) is there. We’ll have to call him."      Imogene "Jean" Peters was buried at Holdenville City Cemetery, Holdenville, Hughes Co., Oklahoma.^2,3 She Imogene O’Neal “Jean”, 90, of Moore passed away January 6, 2012. Jean was born July 9, 1921 in Yeager, Oklahoma, near Holdenville to John and Mallie Peters. Jean was raised in the Yeager and Sasakwa areas. As a teen, she worked in the Peter's dry goods store in Sasakwa. She often spent time reading to her younger cousins to entertain them. In May 1940, she graduated with honors from Sasakwa High School. Jean was in the band and won awards as a clarinet player. She won a Reader's Digest Scholarship but the family was not able to send her to college. During WWII, she lived in Oklahoma City and worked for McDonell Douglas as a riveter. During this time, she and Charles O'Neal started to date. In May of 1944, she took a bus to New York City, where she and Charles were married. Told to Peggy by her mother, during the war, when Jean was pregnant with Peggy, Charles was bringing Jean home to Oklahoma from New York by train. As they arrived at the train station in Kansas City, Missouri, their departing train to Oklahoma City was pulling out and they had missed it! They had to wait many hours in the train station for another train. They did not know anyone in the city, and did not have money for a room. For most of the next 24 years, Jean was a housewife who was active in Peggy's school activities and spent most of her spare time sewing and reading. Jean was a very accomplished seamstress and made most of her and her daughter's clothes. She worked briefly at Tinker Air Force Base when Peggy was in the 7th grade. Widowed at a young age, Jean was employed from 1968 to about 1978 for the US Department of Agriculture. She has been a member of the Del City Church of Christ for over 50 years. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Charles and her brother, Louie Ralph Peters. Survivors include her daughter Peggy O’Neal Fuller of Lenexa Kansas; a grandson Raymond C. Fuller and three great-grandchildren; Lillian Paige Fuller, Jonathon Daniel Fuller, Evan Browning Fuller. Memorial Service will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at Del City Church of Christ, 1901 Vickie Drive, Del City, Oklahoma.      William Chester Horne Chester Horne, 623 North Broadway, died at Boyce Manor Nursing Home Saturday at the age of 81. He was born in Indian Territory, April 14, 1903. He had lived in Hughes County all of his life. He was married to Eva Hawthorne on December 29, 1904 (typo, should be 1924). He was a building contractor and had served for several years with the Hughes County Extension Service. He had also farmed and at one time was Holdenville cemetery Sexton. He was a member of the East Main Church of Christ. Survivors are his widow Eva, of the home; three sons, Bill J. Horne and his wife Twylah, Ada; Chester Horne, Jr., Oklahoma City; Lee Horne and his wife Judy, Ada; five grandchildren, Bill Horne, Jr., Jeanettea Horne, Steve Horne, and Jay Horne, all of Ada; Jenone Kessler, Edmond; and one brother, Louis Horne of Holdenville. Funeral services were held Monday morning at 10:30 at the East Main Church of Christ with Mike Bentley officiating. Busby on April 6, 1907 at Purcell, Jasper Co., Missouri.⁵ Edgar Leslie Robinson married Hester Lavinia Wallace circa 1915.^7,10,6 Edgar Leslie Robinson died on December 11, 1971 at Clinton, Oklahoma, at age 83.^9,8 He Services for Edgar Leslie Robinson, 83, of Wyandotte, who died Friday afternoon in the state tuberculosis hospital at Clinton, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday and the Wyandotte Baptist church with the Rev. Albert Kidwell officiating. Burial will be in the Wyandotte cemetery under direction of the Worley funeral home, Grove. Mr. Robinson, a retired miner, was born September 17, 1888, at Mansfield, Mo., and moved from Century, near Picher, to Wyandotte in 1923. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Hester Robinson, of the home; two sons, Glenn Robinson, Wyandotte, and Morris Robinson, Westminster, Calif; five daughters, Mrs. Thelma Dushane and Mrs. Irene Estes of Fullerton, Calif., Mrs. Hazel Flener of Portland, Ore; Mrs. Phyllis Camboa, Westminster, and Mrs. Wilma Damrill, Neosho, Mo; 23 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. on December 13, 1971.⁸
