PAUL - Madonna Amos, 85, a resident of Prairie Mission Retirement Village in St. Paul, died there at 10:40 a.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2007. She had been in failing health for several years. She was born March 10, 1922, in Conception, Mo., to John Michael and Catherine Mae (Thomas) Schoenhofer. She grew up in St. Paul and attended schools there. She graduated from St. Francis High School in 1942. She lived and worked in Parsons for a few years. She lived in Texas, Tennessee and Olathe for several years before moving to Erie in 1967. She was a homemaker. In later years she worked at a grocery store and a hardware store. She married Clifford W. "Cliff" Amos on Oct. 1, 1946, at St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul. He preceded her in death on Oct. 7, 2004. She was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church and its Altar Society. She taught religion classes at the church. She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella, the Beantown Ramblers, the Neosho County Extension Unit and the American Legion Auxiliary. She volunteered at the American Red Cross blood bank and at a thrift store. Survivors include three sons, Wayne Amos of Kansas City, Kan., Mike Amos of Memphis, Tenn., and Joe Amos of Wichita; two daughters, Donna Bohrer of Erie and Mary Ann Amos of South Coffeyville, Okla; 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four brothers, Gerald Schoenhofer and Bob Schoenhofer, both of St. Paul, Kenneth Schoenhofer of Erie and Verl Schoenhofer of Chanute; and seven sisters, Eileen Barnes of Kansas City, Mo., Veneta Lowe of Ardmore, Okla., Bernice King of Wichita, Norma Carson of Oswego and Kathleen McGown, Ruth Wehlage and Mary Jo Maher, all of Erie. She was preceded in death by a son, Gary Amos, and three sisters, Irene Smith, Rita Lockwood and Rose Schoenhofer. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church. Burial will follow in East Hill Cemetery. The parish rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday at the church with visitation following. Friends may call at Pierce-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Erie from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association or to the Prairie Mission Chapel Fund and may be left at or mailed to the funeral home, 303 N. Grant St., P.O. Box 182, Erie, 66733.
