She was preceded in death by her Sisters, Maxine Jane Rhodes and Letty Suttle; brothers, Abner and Russell Montgomery. Survivors include her best friend, George H. Daniel of Beckley. Sisters, Margaret Boehly of Hamilton, OH and Ella Walker of Mount Hope; brothers,Virgil Montgomery and wife, Sophie, of Chevy Chase, MD and Rev. Grant Montgomery and wife, Ann, of Hamilton, OH. Roger Lee McGuffin Roger Lee McGuffin, age 78, of Prosperity, WV passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley. Born on December 14, 1944 in Beckley, he was the son of the late Henry and Hazel McGuffin. Mr. McGuffin was retired from the building construction industry, having owned and operated Beckley Framing Company for many years, retiring in 2005. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Ted and Jimmy McGuffin, and Sandy Dillon. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Helen Carra Thomas McGuffin; children, Samantha Stokes and husband David of NC, Lesa Lang and husband Paul of NC, and Roger McGuffin Jr. and wife Tammy of NC; the mother of his children, Donna Mann of NC; A step daughter, Kim Williams and husband Les of Shady Spring, WV; special niece, Kim Wamsley and husband Matt of Beckley; brothers, Bobby McGuffin and wife Marlene of OH, and Gary McGuffin and wife Theresa of NC. Many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. The family extends a special thank you to Raleigh General Hospital, ARH Doctors and Nurses, and also to the many Hospice Nurses and Staff of Bowers Hospice House for their kindness given to Roger. McGuffin and Hazel Laws McGuffin. Sandie was a homemaker, and was of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed spending time with her daughter, granddaughter, and other family members. In addition to her parents, Sandie was preceded in death by a brother, James D. McGuffin. Those survivors left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Kimberly Wamsley and husband Matt, of Beckley; granddaughter, Kayleigh Gardner of Beckley; step granddaughter, Jessica Wamsley of Beckley; brothers, Ted McGuffin and wife Diane, of Ohio, Bobby McGuffin and wife Marlene, of Ohio, Roger McGuffin and wife Helen, of Prosperity, and Gary McGuffin and wife Teresa, of North Carolina. Many nieces and nephews also survive. Burial will follow in Monte Vista Park cemetery. Mr. Wood, a resident of Bluefield for the past ten years, had been a patient at the hospital for forty-nine days during which time he had submitted to two operation. He had been in failing health for the past eight years and had been able to work only at intervals. The pallbearers will be Clarence Thomas, O. H. Miff, J. W. White, W. M. Hurt, Geece Gillespie and W. S. Shumate. Mr. Wood was born at Elk Ridge W. Va., son of Charles F. and Margaret Johnston Wood, who now reside in Bluefield. Betty Sue Houck was buried at McVey Cemetery, Sullivan, Raleigh Co., West Virginia.3 Her Social Security Number was 289-34-7660.4 She was born on February 11, 1929 at Sophia, Raleigh Co., West Virginia.1,2,4 As of November 20, 1947,her married name was McVey.1 She married Harold Theadford McVey, son of Andrew Jackson McVey and Willie Ethel Terry, on November 20, 1947 at Sophia, Raleigh Co., West Virginia.1,3 Betty Sue Houck died on April 9, 2012 at West Virginia at age 83.2,4 She Betty Sue McVey, 83, of Pemberton, went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 9, 2012, where she will spend eternity with no more pain, sorrow or tears as she is with God in his loving care. Born February 11, 1929, in Raleigh County, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Daphna Houck. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold (Tag) McVey, and brothers Carl and Billy. Those left to cherish her memories are her son, Harold (Chip) McVey of Pemberton; daughter, Patty Lombardo and her husband Tony; sister, Jody Shorr and husband Clarence; grandchildren, Andrew (Drew) McVey and wife Heather of Alderson, Allen (whom she called Allie pooh) McVey and wife Crissy of Beckley, Sean Lombardo and wife Barbara and Sandy Crowe; great-grandchildren, Andrew, Summer, Mathew, Chase, Trace, and Elijah McVey; Justin, Heather and Seth Wyco; Michael, Wesley, Amber and Christopher Lombardo; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. Betty accepted the Lord and was saved on August 24, 1946, and baptized by the Reverend Walker in Pemberton. She was very active in teaching Sunday school and other church duties at the Mantua Country Baptist Church in Ohio which she and her husband Tag started in a little barn on their property. Several years before moving to West Virginia, Betty was employed at the Anna Marie Nursing Home in Ohio as a LPN. Betty was a very lovely lady who enjoyed embroidery painting, working outdoors with her flowers, raising a small garden, traveling with her husband, singing gospel songs and reading her Bible as well as living by it. At Christmas, Betty would always bake a special birthday cake for Jesus to celebrate his birth with his family and friends. on April 11, 2012 at Raleigh Co., West Virginia.2

Andrew Jackson "Drew" McVey Andrew Jackson McVey, 42, of MacArthur, passed away Saturday, June 9, 2018. Born March 26, 1976 in Ravenna, OH, he was the son of the late Donna Clay and Harold McVey of Beaver. Andrew was owner of Platinum DJ and former owner of Outlaw Wrestling Alliance. He was an avid Star Wars collector and loved spending time with his family. In addition to his mother he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Betty and Tag McVey as well as his best friend, James “Snookie” Kyle. Andrew is survived by his wife, Heather Dawn Hale McVey; children, Andrew Jackson McVey, II, Summer Leigh McVey, Trace Tyler McVey, Chase Taylor McVey and Elijah Cole McVey all of MacArthur; brother, Allen and Crissy McVey and their son Matthew of Coal City and many nieces and nephews as well as his dogs Chewy and Roxie. Dorothy Lucille Mentz Dorothy Lucille McVey, 95, of Pemberton passed away Sunday, November 23, 2014 following a long illness. Born October 19, 1919 in Callaghan, VA, she was the daughter of the late Grover Cleveland and Sally Kelley Mentz. Dorothy was a homemaker. She enjoyed quilting, sewing and reading. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard G. McVey; a daughter, Rose Ellen McVey; brothers, Hubert, Lewis and Homer Mentz and sisters, Mary and Virginia. Survivors include her daughter, Frances Stacy of Pemberton; son, Richard D. McVey of Hendersonville, TN; 7 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren and 3 great great-grandchildren.
