The body will remain at the Melton Mortuary where friends may call after 5 p.m. today. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at the Melton Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Harry R. Peyton in charge with Rev. L. S. Elder assisting. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Hubert Jackson, Ray Reed, Charles Johnston, Russell Miller, Dorcas Dodson, Rev. Travis Woody, Ivan Pizzino, and Bill Jarrell. on October 1, 1970.3

     Finley Dunlap Seldomridge Finley Dunlap Seldomridge, 83 of St. Albans passed away Friday September 15, 2017. Finley was born in Hinton, WV and was the son of the late Lawrence Newt Seldomridge and Mae Dunlap Seldomridge. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Jean Seldomridge and granddaughter, Megan Gutierrez. Finley was a graduate of St. Albans High School, Class of 1952. Following graduation, Finley went to West Virginia University, where he participated in the marching band. He graduated from WVU in 1956 as a Pharmacist. He began his career at Trivillian’s Pharmacy on Quarrier Street, which he later purchased and operated as Finley’s Pharmacy until 1977. He then worked for St. Francis Hospital Pharmacy and retired from Rite Aid on February 1, 2008, exactly 50 years from when he began his career. Finley’s love for the West Virginia Mountaineers remained throughout his life as he cheered them on during football and basketball seasons. He had a passion for golf, loved working his yard and enjoyed many styles of music. He was also a member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church, St. Albans. He is survived by his daughters; Kathy Jordan of St. Albans and Valerie White (Lyn) of Myrtle Beach, SC; brother, Robert Lawrence Seldomridge (Janice) of Georgia; grandchildren, Christy Cox (Greg), Kimberly Parsons, Tate Seldomridge, Michael Barker; step-grandchildren, Wendy Caldwell, Rebecca Donohoe, Josh Jordan and Jacob Jordan; great-grandchilden, Stephen Cox, Abigail Cox, Brighton Gutierrez and Trevor King; and seven step-great-grandchildren. The family would also like to thank Ted Meredith for being such a good friend to our dad and for always being there. William Ham, 64, was indicted on 40 counts each of incest and rape. Authorities allege Ham began raping his daughter when she was 7 years old and continued until she was 13. "All throughout her life she told people,'' said Kirsten Keller, Raleigh County assistant prosecutor. "It was just recently that she made the decision to tell the authorities. It was really necessary for her health and peace of mind to confront this.'' Ham can be prosecuted under the laws in effect at the time of the alleged incidents or under current law. Between 1965 and 1971, the sentence for rape of a child by a man was life in prison with the possibility of parole after 10 years. Now, first-degree sexual assault carries a sentence of 15 to 35 years in prison. on May 21, 1998.6 He died on May 25, 1998 at Beckley, Raleigh Co., West Virginia, at age 64.5,4 He William Clayborn Ham, 64, of Beckley, was dead on arrival Monday, May 25, 1998, in a Beckley hospital. Born July 15, 1933, in Kewanne, Ill., he was the son of the late Charles Ross Ham and Essie Crane Ham. Mr. Ham was a retired mechanic for American Electric Power with 23 years of service. He was of the Protestant faith and was a U.S. Army veteran. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Bobbie Jean Bartusiak Ham. Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Peggy Sue Jones Ham; a daughter, Bea Ann Lowery and her husband, James T., of Beckley; a stepdaughter, Mary R. Persinger Hylton of Crab Orchard; two brothers, Leslie Dale Ham and his wife, Margaret, of Peoria, Ill., and Donald Ross Ham of Las Lunas, N.M; of Beckley; and a stepgranddaughter, Sonya S. Hylton of Crab Orchard. Services will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel with the Rev. Fred Lovell officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Sophia-Midway VFW Post No. 4326. on May 27, 1998.4

Ballard, 83, of Sprague, who died at 8:25 p.m. Saturday in the Beckley Hospital. Death was at attributed to a cerebral hemorrhage, suffered Friday afternoon. Rites were to be held in the Beckley Presbyterian Church with the Rev. J. W. Witherspoon officiating. Burial was to follow in Sunset Memorial Park, with members of Beckley Masonic Lodge 95 in charge. Ballard had been a member of the Raleigh County Board of Education for 14 years. He was born in Monroe County, Dec. 20, 1890, the son of William and Susan Biggs Ballard, both deceased. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lottie Light Ballard; two daughters, Mrs. F. E. Dunn of Denville, N. J. and Mrs. J. B. Hatcher of Beckley; one son, George Ballard of Cincinnati, Ohio; one brother, Wilbur Ballard of Lindside and seven grandchildren. He was a member of the Sewell Chapter of the Masonic Lodge at Oak Hill, the Beni Kedem Shrine in Charleston, Mt. Hope Commandry Lodge No. 22; Moose and Elks Lodges and a deacon in the Beckley Presbyterian Church. Pallbearers include Dr. T. F. Garrett, R. F. Kessler, W. C. Brucebeck, C. D. Munson, D. W. Bryson, F. E. Foster, Lake Ballard, O. L. Blake, T. E. Razzarre and John Dowel. The body was removed to the residence Sunday afternoon from the Keyser Funeral Home, and was to be taken to the church an hour prior to the service. Offices of the Raleigh County School Board are closed today out of respect for the deceased. on January 25, 1954.7

     John Byset was buried at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill, Fayette Co., West Virginia.3 His Social Security Number was 236-24-1672.4 He was born on June 12, 1896 at Austria-Hungary.1,4,2 He married Grace Lee "Gracie" Light, daughter of James Napolean "Booker Jim" Light and Queen Victoria "Tory" Huffman, on September 22, 1919 at Beckley, Raleigh Co., West Virginia.1 John Byset died on April 29, 1976 at Oak Hill, Fayette Co., West Virginia, at age 79.4,3 He GLEN JEAN - John "Buzz" Byset, 79, of Glen Jean, Raleigh County, was dead on arrival Thursday at Oak Hill Hospital after an apparent heart attack. Mr. Byset was a retired merchant and a member of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church at Scarbro. Surviving: wife, Grace Byset; sons, John Fredrick Byset of Vienna, Va., William James Byset of San Bernardino, Calif; sister, Miss Ann Byset of Glen Jean; two grandchildren. Service will be 6 p.m. today in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Scarbro, with the Rev. Leo Werner officiating. Graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Highlawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill. on May 1, 1976.3

A native of West Virginia, he had been a Peninsula resident for three years. He retired as an attorney for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Washington, D.C. He is survived by two daughters, Ginny Napier of Grafton and Mary Menefee of Manassas; one brother, William Byset of Glen Jean, W.Va; and five grandchildren. The body will be sent to the Money and King Funeral Home in Vienna, Va., for services and burial there. on July 29, 1995.5
