John MacDonald Atkinson John MacDonald Atkinson, Saturday, October 27th, 1934 - Tuesday, October 1st, 2019. On October 1, 2019, John Atkinson passed away peacefully at the age of 84. John was born on October 27, 1934 in Shawsville, Virginia to William Bane and Claudine Atkinson. He attended Roanoke College and received a Bachelor’s degree from University of Richmond. He was a practicing CPA for over 60 years. He was married to his soulmate Debbie, had three children and two step children all of whom he adored. Johnny was raised in the Shenandoah Valley and had a deep love of the state, its history and its beauty. He spent his entire life in the state helping others and his communities. He gave his time and talents chairing numerous organizations including Rotary Club, Prince William Hospital, Chamber of Commerce and Historic Manassas. He established an academic scholarship at Roanoke College and also supported numerous initiatives with Wintergreen Resort. He was a founding member and President of Evergreen Country Club, and spent much of his life with a golf club in his hand. Whether it was teaching his family, sharing that passion with friends and loved ones or playing as many different courses as he could, his mind was never far from the game. His five hole-in-ones can attest to his love and tenacity with the sport. Johnny also had an insatiable curiosity for Civil War history. So much so, he spent eight summers taking courses which took him and his wife across the entire state visiting every Virginia battlefield. He often commented how much Debbie must love him to be his sidekick during those day-long excursions. Johnny’s ability to connect with all he met through his empathy, sense of humor and genuineness will continue through all those he touched. Johnny was preceded in death by his mother Claudine, father William Bane Sr., and brother William Bane Jr. He is survived by his wife Debbie, children Bruce (Cathy), Leslie (Rita) and Brett, stepchildren Jason and Paige and grandchildren Bobby, Grant and Claire.4 He and Margaret Lee Campbell were divorced.3 John MacDonald Atkinson was born on October 27, 1934 at Shawsville, Montgomery Co., Virginia.3,4,5 He married Eleanor Gail Kimble on August 20, 1955 at Cincinnati, Hamilton Co., Ohio.5 John MacDonald Atkinson and Eleanor Gail Kimble were divorced on July 29, 1982.3 John MacDonald Atkinson married Margaret Lee Campbell on January 8, 1983 at Prince William Co., Virginia.3 John MacDonald Atkinson married Debra Lynn Shaver on October 23, 1993 at Manassas, Virginia.3 John MacDonald Atkinson died on October 1, 2019 at Virginia at age 84.4

Lynn Sherwood Sisson Lynn S. Sisson, 40-year-old chairman of the Montgomery County board of supervisors, died Saturday afternoon enroute to a Radford hospital. Sisson who was head of the Piedmont Cemetery Association was helping to dig a grave when he suffered a heart attack. Friends and business associates said he was not known to have had any previous heart conditions. For reasons of health, he returned to the Otey neighborhood about 15 years ago, purchased a general store owned by his aunt, Mrs. Effie Jewell and had operated it since. He and his brother, Hugh Sisson also bought old Allegheny Springs resort property, and had been selling it jointly in small parcels. Sisson was a charter member of the community Ruritan Club and was active in the affairs of the Piedmont Methodist Church. A Republican, he was not active in political affairs until 1959 when he ran for the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors from the Alleghany district. He defeated a Democrat, John Echols, who had been a member for several years. He became chairman of the board this year and was a candidate for re-election. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Emma B. Sisson, two sons, James L. and Jerry Sisson, and his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. George Sisson, all of Shawsville; two brothers, Hugh Sisson, Shawsville and Vance Sisson, Laredo, Tex.5 He was buried at Piedmont Cemetery, Rt. 11 to Shawsville, turn at nursing home, Rt. 637, about 8 miles on the left, Montgomery Co., Virginia.3 He married Emma Bandy.4,6 Lynn Sherwood Sisson was born on July 24, 1914 at Montgomery Co., Virginia.3,4 He died on August 17, 1963 at Montgomery Co., Virginia, at age 49.3,4,5
