Her funeral was Saturday at Pine Grove Community Church in Dixonville. Burial followed beside her father and grandparents at Bert Cemetery in Dixonville. Miss Harris was born Feb. 28, 1970, in Roseburg to Richard Allen and Beverly Jean Harris. She grew up in Dixonville and graduated from Glide High School in 1989. She had an extremely close relationship with her mother. She had an adventurous and Christian spirit. One of her first jobs out of high school was transporting and operating media equipment for Christian-based pep assemblies given at many schools across the United States. One summer she worked as a spirit leader-camp counselor at a residential Bible Camp. She attended school to become a travel agent and worked as a travel agent in Denver and later in the Seattle area. At the time of her death, she was a corporate travel consultant for Expedia.com in Bellevue, Wash. She traveled all over the world and experienced different cultures. She enjoyed watching movies, visiting with her mother and collecting pink flamingos and snow globes. Miss Harris is survived by her mother, Beverly Jean Harris and her mother's husband, Howard Jenkins of Hermiston; brothers Patrick and Kevin Harris, both of Glide; brother Richard (Rick) Harris of West Richland, Wash; uncle and aunt Vere and Mary Ellen Perry; three nephews and six nieces; and numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her father Richard Allen Harris; grandparents Harry and Cora Collison; and niece Dasha Harris. on June 4, 2008.³

     Douglas Frederick Arbaugh Douglas F. Arbaugh died Saturday, September 24, 2011, at Hubbard Hospice House, South Charleston. He was a member of the "Greatest Generation," serving in the 8th and 9th Army Air Corps during World War II. He received many medals and was promoted for his excellent handling and upkeep on his jeeps, tractor-trailers and big city cranes. Douglas was awarded a medal from the French of appreciation for his service while serving in their country at Normandy Beach. He took art classes in Swindon, England, while working for the Great Western Railway and Hill Brothers after returning to his wife's homeland after the war. He was a proud Teamster member for over 70 years, possibly the oldest and longest serving member. He joined when he drove for Town Tops Taxi, then Kroger, before and after the war, then worked 32 years with Smith Transfer Company and was accident free. He was a member of the 8th Air Force Club, Teamsters Local 175 retiree club, TBPA, and St. Mark's Episcopal Church. Douglas was a hard worker from an early age, working along side his Dad on the farm in Nicholas County and for neighbors, Bays family and others, tending their fields and cattle. He helped build the main road through Summersville, and then returned to Charleston and worked with the Lewis family, who taught him how to drive. He had many fond memories of them all. He loved to tinker with things, always using those hands. He would help anyone neighbor, friend and family by, digging ditches, remodeling, clearing snow, mowing grass, etc. He did whatever needed to be done in his church. He helped remodel St. Luke's (St. Christopher), was parking attendant at St. Mark's Bazaars and Vestry member at several churches. If he came for a visit, he'd disappear and fix whatever needed attention. In the past four years, he has crocheted over 100 Afghans for babies and adults, bedspreads and scarves, giving them away. Dad made sure all doctors and staff had something, his way of thanking them. He loved giving hugs until he made their hearing aids squeal. He was proud of all his family from the first born to the last great-grandchild. He was our idol, our "hero." He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; and both parents, William "Fred" and Maybelle Arbaugh. He is survived by his children, Patricia (Richard), Raymond (Karen), Cynthia (Russell), and Poppa to; Stephen (Kelly), Danny (Darla), Teresa (Scott), Ada, Jeff (Abbey) and Marty (Kelly) and GREAT Poppa to; Kamryn, Jacob, Mason, Avery Rose, Sophia and Jackson; brothers, Louis, and Robert Lee (Lorraine) and their families, who surprised him by attending his 90th birthday celebration. Grateful thanks goes to Dr. Skaggs and his staff, Dr. Kayi, Yousaf (Dee-Dee), the nurses at Thomas Memorial Hospital and the staff and nurses at Hubbard Hospice House West and Thomas Memorial Hospital for their compassionate care. We are forever thankful to Mr. and Mrs. Scarberry. Dad and Mom thought the world of you. You are a true blessing to our family.      Louise Catherine Arbaugh was buried at Grandview Memorial Park, Dunbar, Kanawha Co., West Virginia.^2,5 Her married name was Applegate.⁴ She married Herman Applegate.⁴ Louise Catherine Arbaugh was born on July 16, 1925 at West Virginia.^1,2 She died on January 30, 2015 at Charleston, Kanawha Co., West Virginia, at age 89.² She Louise Catherine Arbaugh Applegate, 89, of West Dunbar, passed away on Friday, January 30, 2015 at CAMC General Hospital. She was born on July 16, 1925 to the late W.F. Arbaugh and Maybelle Martin Arbaugh of Dunbar. She graduated from Dunbar High School, Class of 1945, and graduated from Charleston School of Nursing. She was a former employee of Staats Hospital; Bosie Register, for private duty nurses; and a nurse at Capital City Nursing Home, from which she retired. Louise was a very dedicated nurse and loved to care for all her patients. She was a member of Landmark Baptist Church, 6911 MacCorkle Ave., St. Albans. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Douglas F. Arbaugh and sister-in-law, Dorothy Arbaugh of St. Albans; sister-in-law, Lorraine Arbaugh of Claremont, VA; daughters, Carol S. Applegate Strobel of Dunbar and Nancy C. Applegate Clark of South Charleston; two grandsons, Chester “Bud” Strobel and Richard Allen Strobel of Dunbar; and son-in-law, Paul H. (Punk) Smith. Louise is survived by her brother, Robert L. Arbaugh of Claremont, VA; daughter, Brenda J. Applegate Smith-Fields and husband, Gene of St. Albans; son-in-law, Carl E. Clark and Jackie of South Charleston; eight grandchildren, Consuelo S. She was the wife of Douglas F. Arbaugh. They were married at Christ Church, Swindon, on March 28, 1945. She was the mother of Patricia (Richard) Raymond (Karen) and Cynthia (Russell.) She was the Nan of Stephen (Kelly) Danny (Darla) Teresa, Ada, Jeff and Marty. She was the greatgrandma of Kamryn. She was also the cousin of Emma Measor of England. During World War II she was a lathe machine operator at the Great Western Railway of England. She was Dunbar's first war bride and became a naturalized citizen in 1954. She was a lifetime member of the Church of England, the last 27 years with St. Mark's Episcopal Church in St. Albans, where she was active in church fundraisers. She was also a lifelong member of the Transatlantic Brides and Parents Association, an officeholder of the Woman's Clubs and the International Club and had been employed by Cohen Drug Company. There will be a memorial service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made to Hubbard House Hospice, 1001 Kennawa Drive, Charleston, WV 25311, or a charity of your choice.
