Minnie Kathryn Cole Minnie Kathryn Cole Chewning of Roanoke, Va., passed away at the age of 80 on Tuesday, April 17, 2018. She was born in Roanoke, Va., where she met her husband, Bobby Chewning. Minnie graduated from William Fleming High School. After marrying Mr. Chewning, they moved to California for several years while Mr. Chewning was in the Navy. Minnie worked for the telephone company while there. When their sons were small, they moved back to Roanoke to be near family. Minnie devoted her life to babysitting many children watching them from the time they were infants until they started school and taking care of her family. She loved all UVA sports and cheering on her Cavaliers. Her greatest gift was her dedication to her daughter, Tracy. No mother loved her daughter more, and for 47 years, she took care of her and made sure she wanted for nothing. Her selflessness was an example for all. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Gladys Cole; her four brothers Don, Bobby, Louis, and Wesley Cole; and her sister, Betty Pritchard. Minnie is survived by her devoted husband, Bobby Chewning, to whom she was very proud to be married for 62 years; her daughter, Tracy Chewning; her sons, Tom Chewning and wife, Robin, and Tim Chewning and wife, Nancy; three grandsons, Corey, Christopher and Tyler Chewning; and one great-granddaughter, Sophia. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Joyce Cole and Cathy Cole; many nieces and nephews; and two special couples who were dear friends, Wanda and Earl Atkins and Charlie and Ann Rozier.3 She was born on August 29, 1937 at Roanoke, Virginia.3,5 As of circa 1956,her married name was Chewning.3 She married Bobby Ray Chewning circa 1956.6,4,3 Minnie Kathryn Cole died on April 17, 2018 at Roanoke, Virginia, at age 80.3
