He was a person well liked and respected, surrounded by friends, and enjoyed many, many good times. He is dearly loved and will be sorely missed by his wife, Molly; children, Donna Jones Wells (Tommy), and Phil Jones (Jill); stepson, Kasson Bratton (Olivia); grandsons, Jason Jones (Mackenzie), Drue Gray (Heather), and Justin and Michael Wells; sisters, Ina Messinger (W.D. Sr.), Juanita Howell, Estelle Jones, Christine Jones, and Geraldine Smith; and many nieces and nephews. Smith, Jr., brothers Ishmael, Rudolph and Stafford Jones, sisters, Ina Messenger, Juanita Howell, Estelle Jones, and Christine Jones. Surviving are many nieces, nephews, and friends. Geraldine attended St. Peters Mission School in Callaway and was a 1950 graduate of Callaway High School. She was a believer saved by Christ and now is with the Lord Jesus. She loved her family and shared many laughs with them as she had a good sense of humor and easy going personality. She loved dancing and traveling with her husband “Junior” Smith. She is the last of the great generation in the Aldine Jones family. The family expresses their appreciation for the care she received from the many employees of King’s Grant Retirement Community and Mountain Valley Hospice. Mr. Smith was born in Pittsylvania County on October 4, 1925, a son of the late William and Martha Smith. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Lucille Moore Smith; sister, Ora Brammer; two brothers, Larry Smith and Rawley Smith. Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Geraldine Jones Smith of Roanoke; his daughter, Brenda Smith Gibson of Midlothian; grandson, Brandon Gibson of Lynchburg; brothers, Frank Smith of Shawsville, John (Leslie) Smith of Hurt, and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Smith was a World War II veteran and worked many years in the furniture and carpet industry. He has attended Huntington United Methodist Church for many years. She was born to the late James and Mary Hankins on March 18, 1954 in Gap Mills, W.Va. Carolyn is survived by her loving husband of over 40 years, Joseph Glenn Jones; her daughter, Jennifer Lynn Mayton; son-in-law, Eric Scott Mayton; and three grandchildren, Kierstin Briann Mayton, Christian Alexander Mayton and Cameron Reed Mayton. Carolyn was the youngest of a large extended family and was preceded in death by two brothers, James "Bill" Hankins and R.T. Hankins; as well as her five sisters, Ruth Hankins Marshall, Grace Hankins Wickline, Margaret Hankins Talbert, Lottie Hankins Thornton and Edith Hankins Collie. She is survived by two brothers, George Hankins and Paul Hankins, both of West Virginia; and many beloved nieces, nephews, other loving family and friends. Carolyn loved to cook and was the center of family gatherings, ensuring all who entered her home were comfortable and welcomed. She was a caretaker in every sense of the word and enriched the lives of so many. Her family meant everything to her and she so enjoyed being a "Grammy." She will be deeply missed by all that knew her. on November 30, 2021.²
