He was born on October 4, 1928, to the late Roy and Ora Guilliams Hale. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Billy and Cecil; stepson, Lonnie Jones; and nephew, Greg Hale. Lawrence was a United States Army Veteran having served his country in the Korean War. He was employed at Stanley Furniture Company retiring after 37 years of service. Lawrence enjoyed woodworking and playing bingo, especially when he won. He loved his grandchildren and family and made many moments and memories that will forever be etched in all of our minds and hearts. Surviving are his wife, Clara Hale; daughter, Christine Cooper and husband, Rocky; grandchild, Jacquelyn Cooper Bradley; four great-grandchildren, Logan, Addison, Aayden and Emmie; brother, Roy Hale Jr. and wife, Hazel; brother-inlaw and sister-in-law, Jay and Sandy Jenkins; friend, Barbara Hale; special companion, Tinkerbell; and many cousins and friends. Interment will follow in the Hale Family Cemetery. on May 18, 2011.⁵

She was a daughter of the late James Russell and Mary Elizabeth Divers Jenkins. he was also preceded in death by her husbands, James Jones and Lawrence Hale; son, Lonnie Wayne Jones; and great-niece, Amber Hoback. She worked at VA Apparel and after retirement, she worked as a cashier at Walmart. She is survived by her brother, George “Jay” Jenkins; special niece, Mary Jenkins, great-niece, Ashley Hoback; stepdaughter, Christine Cooper; special friend, Wanda Flanagan; and other family and friends. She was born in Panschwitz, Croswitz, Germany on December 23, 1934 ,to the late Richard Franz and Emma Maria Lauschke Wagner. Barbara came to the United States in 1954 and got her citizenship right away. She was a greeter with Wal-Mart. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Ellen Christine "Chris" Hale Cooper and her husband, Henry "Rocky" Cooper; a granddaughter; two great-grandsons; and two great-granddaughters, all of Rocky Mount, Va. She is also survived by a sister, Christa W. Beckmann, of Templin, Germany; and by a number of nieces, nephews (great and grand) in the United States and Germany. Funeral Services will be conducted from Lynch Conner-Bowman Funeral Chapel at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 11, 2012, with Dr. Jackie Spence officiating. Funeral services will be held at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel on Saturday, January 11, 2003 at 12 noon with Rev. Emily Hoyer officiating. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. on January 10, 2003.²
