He was also an active member of the community and a member of the American Legion Post #490, A Navy veteran of WW II and the Korean war, a member of the local advisory committee for Addie Wiseman, former President of the Super Neighborhood Ellington Area, President of the Beverly Hill Civic Club, member of P.I.P and an active member of C.O.P.S. Richard is survived by his loving wife of 25 years: Carolyn Dickenson, children: Jan Davidson and her husband Steve, Jenny Dickenson, Roger Merrill and wife Rosalie and Candy Merrill. Grandchildren: Heather Burdeaux and husband Joel, Timothy Davidson, Nathan Davidson, Sarah Merrill and Samantha Merrill, great-grandchildren: Arabella Burdeaux and Holden Burdeaux. Many loving friends also survive him. Burial to follow at Forest Park East Cemetery. on July 10, 2004.3

Born July 30, 1953 in Princeton, he was the son of Courtney Harmon and Georgia Lee Caldwell. Donald worked for Exxon-Mobil as a truck driver and worked as a terminal operator. Donald was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother. He will be remembered for his love of God and Country, his commitment to the Bus Ministries, always wanted to make sure everyone had the opportunity to get to church. While his health permitted, he enjoyed camping and fishing with his family and friends. He especially loved going to the Outer Banks with all of his family. He was a member of the Maranatha Baptist Church in Princeton. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his loving wife Patricia May Thompson Caldwell; One Loving Daughter, Angela Broome and husband William of Charlotte, NC; Two very special grandchildren whom he loved dearly Jonathan and Noah Broome. One brother, Ronnie Caldwell and wife Carolyn of Newton, NC; One sister, Jean Midkiff and her husband Doug of Princeton; And his in-laws, Paul & Karen Thomas, Derrick & Janet Benbow along with a host of nieces and nephews. Entombment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. on December 2, 2017.4

In addition to his mother Janice, he is survived by his daughter MacKenzie (Kenzie) Thompson and a brother Jesse Thompson, and his grandmother Lena Wyrick.
