She was born in Bluefield, W.Va. and was the daughter of the late Charles and Lona Olivia Lowe Hearn. She had made her home in the Richlands, Va. area most of her life and was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Ray Pendergrass; and two brothers, David Lewis and Buddy Hearn. Survivors are: Two sons, Steven Pendergrass of Richlands, Va., Chris Pendergrass and fiancée, Angela Mitchell of Richlands, Va; two sisters, Kathryn Pendergrass of Roanoke, Va., Sandy Kennedy and husband, Gabe of London, Ky; five brothers, John D. Hearn of Roanoke, Va., Tommy Hearn of Moneta, Va., Charles Hearn of Roanoke, Va., Joe Hearn, and Ray Hearn of Moneta, Va; one grandson, Taylor Pendegrass; special friends, Cody Jill Keen, Vickie Keen, Hazel Whited, Caroline Compton. on July 24, 2009.1

     Charles Ray Pendergrass was buried at Grandview Memory Gardens, Bluefield, Tazewell Co., Virginia.5 His Social Security Number was 236-54-6326.3 He was born on March 8, 1936 at English, McDowell Co., West Virginia.2,3,6 He married Helen Charlene “Linda” Hearn, daughter of Charles Edward "Charlie" Hearn and Lona Olivia Lowe, on August 11, 1962 at Lebanon, Russell Co., Virginia.1,2,7,5 Charles Ray Pendergrass died on April 18, 1996 at Richlands, Tazewell Co., Virginia, at age 60.3,5,8,4,6 He Charles R. Pendergrass, 60, of Cedar Bluff, formerly of Bartley, WV, died April 18 in a Richlands hospital following a brief illness. He was born in English, WV, and was a son of Hester Dickens Pendergrass of Bartley, WV, and the late Charles Leonard Pendergrass. He was a graduate of Big Creek High School and was a U.S. Army veteran. He had made his home in the Cedar Bluff area for the past 20 years and was a retired mine foreman for Island Creek Coal Company Beatrice Mine and VP-2. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Frances Hazelett and one brother, James Edward Pendergrass. Additional survivors: wife, Helen Charlene (Linda) Hearn Pendergrass; sons, Steven Ray Pendergrass of Richlands, Christopher Shane Pendergrass of the home; sister, Peggy Joyce Tate of Abingdon; and brother, William Glen Pendergrass of Coalwood, WV. Interment followed in Grandview Memory Gardens at Bluefield, VA. Members of the Casey-Shortt VFW Post No. 9640 and the Disabled American Veterans Tazewell County Chapter No. 31 conducted military graveside rites. on April 24, 1996.5

     Steven Ray Pendergrass Steven Ray Pendergrass, Feb 20, 1968 - Oct 16, 2024. Steven Ray Pendergrass, 56, of Richlands, Virginia passed away on October 16, 2024, in Salem, Virginia, after battling cancer for three years. Steve was born in Welch, West Virginia, and was the son of the late Charles Ray Pendergrass and Linda Pendergrass. Steve graduated from Richlands High School and continued his education at Southwest Virginia Community College. He loved his community and was a life-long supporter of Richlands Football. He loved children of all ages and volunteered to coach little league football and baseball, alongside his father, Ray. Steven loved his family and friends and the good times they’d share. Steve enjoyed spending time with them, hanging out, and having a good time. He was always fun to be around. He’d often share stories and memories; those stories and memories will never be forgotten. Steve was never at a loss for words and never met a stranger. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Those left to cherish Steve’s memory are his brother Chris Pendergrass and his wife Teresa; one very special nephew, Taylor Pendergrass, and his fiancée, Isabella Martin; two great nieces, whom he loved dearly, RayElle Pendergrass and Ivy Pendergrass; several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.2 He was born on February 20, 1968 at Welch, McDowell Co., West Virginia.2 He died on October 16, 2024 at Salem, Roanoke Co., Virginia, at age 56.2

     Michael Bernard Swadis was buried at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Road, Newtown, Bucks Co., Pennsylvania.1 He was born on October 15, 1949 at Bucks Co., Pennsylvania.1 He died on May 25, 2015 at Pennsylvania at age 65.1 He Michael Bernard Swadis passed away peacefully Monday, May 25, 2015. He was 65. He was the beloved son of Elline (Hearn) Swadis of Langhorne, and the beloved brother of Sharon Swadis of Philadelphia. He is also survived by Jo Ann and Kenneth Teague (aunt and cousin); Kenneth Miller (best friend); Gail Thompson (cousin); Edward Swagzdis (cousin); William McCool and Shannon Aspite (nephew and niece); three great nieces; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Victor Michael Swadis. Michael was born and raised in Bucks County, and attended Neshaminy High School and Bucks County Community College. He was an accomplished clarinetist, and had a passionate love for music. Michael served proudly in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, rising to the rank of Lance Corporal. He travelled extensively throughout the United States before retiring to Bucks County several years ago. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends, and will be best remembered for his kind soul and helpful nature. A private interment will be held at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday, June 3, in Washington Crossing National Cemetery. on May 31, 2015.1
