He was 59. He was chairman of the supervisors from 1948 to 1952 and for a number of years prior to that had been a board member. More recently he had been a member of the Roanoke County School Board, but had been inactive for the past few months because of illness. He was employed by the Norfolk and Western Railway for 40 years and had been active not only in civic affairs but in political and other fields. Tayloe was superintendent of the Sunday Piney Grove Church, treasurer of the board of directors Mercy House and a member of Melrose Lodge No. 139, AF&AM. He was secretary of the Sixth District Democratic Committee, a past president of the League of Virginia Counties, past president of the Exchange Club of Roanoke and past president of Lions Club. He also was a member of the Woodmen of the World and of Roanoke Lodge 197, BPOE. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Boyd C. Tayloe, six brothers and a sister: Claude Tayloe, Wallace Tayloe, Calvin Tayloe and John Tayloe, Roanoke; Harry and Ellis Tayloe, Washington, D.C., and Mrs. Elsie Goad, Roanoke. Interment will be in Evergreen with rites by Melrose Lodge of Mason. Pallbearers will be Thomas T. Thomas, Howard W. Starkey, Carl M. Andrews, Wesley Griggs, Ford Long and James R. Meredith. on May 18, 1956.6
