Thompson, 86, born June 23, 1924 in Brewton, a resident of Loxley, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2011 at his residence. The son of William Archie and Cenie Irene Thompons, his family moved to Bay Minette when he was 4. He enlisted as a private in the U.S. Army during World War II, spending time in France and Germany. During the war, he also served in the Office of Strategic Services, a wartime intelligence agency that was sthe forerunner of the Central Intelligence Agency. A graduate of Baldwin County High School, he returned to civilian life and attended the University of Alabama for several years. In 1949, he became an agent with State Farm Insurance Companies and opened his office in Bay Minette. At the time of his death, he had been with the company at the same location for 61 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Theodore V. Thompson; son, William A. Thompson Jr; and two spouses, Emma Elizabeth Thompson and Frances Hurst Thompson. Survivors include three daughters, Dianne Thompson of Laurel, Md., Debra Thompson of Mobile and Donna Thompson of Daphne; and three granddaughters, April Hopkins, Angele Moberg and Elizabeth Thompson. Burial with military honors will follow at Bay Minette Cemetery. Pallbearers are Michael Worden, Steve Thompson, Bill Brantley, Zach De Polo, Kenneth Crook, Robert Thompson, Timothy Weaver and Howard Thompson. on February 4, 2011.1

He is survived by his wife, Rosalind Hall Hurst of Bay Minette; two daughters, Tabitha Hurst and Valorie Driver, both of Bay Minette; his mother, Frances Hurst of Bay Minette; his father, Ronald Hurst Sr. of West Virginia; one brother, Anthony David Hurst of San Diego, Calif; four sisters, Debra Pimperl, Donna Bryars, Dana Owens and Tammy Hadley, all of Bay Minette; paternal grandmother, Ethel Hurst of West Virginia; six nieces and two nephews. on April 18, 1989.2
