Douglas Banks Whitenack Douglas B. Whiteneck, 89, of Roanoke, Va., passed from this life into the arms of his Lord early on Monday morning, May 26, 2019. He rejoices to be with his mom, dad and dog, Candie. Doug served in the United States Navy and the Army and retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He is survived by his wife, Jaime; daughter, Lori and husband, David; niece, Peggy Lloyd; stepson, Randy Hylton, brothers-in-law, Tom and Steve Powell; two granddaughters, India and Shannan; and three great-grandchildren.10 He married Jaime Unknown.10 Douglas Banks Whitenack was born on March 20, 1930 at Roanoke, Virginia.2,3,4 He married Lucille Eloise Rusmisell on April 16, 1951 at Roanoke, Virginia.6,2 Douglas Banks Whitenack and Lucille Eloise Rusmisell were divorced on February 27, 1975 at Roanoke, Virginia.3 Douglas Banks Whitenack married Janice Rae Powell on March 22, 1975 at Roanoke, Virginia.2 Douglas Banks Whitenack died on May 26, 2019 at Roanoke, Virginia, at age 89.10

In addition to his wife, children and granddaughter, he is survived by his brother, Richard; sister, Peggy; very dear friends, Carol and Skeezie Runyon; and numerous close friends with the Roanoke City Fire Department, Hollins University and his golf buddies. He will be sadly missed. on December 13, 2004.1

George Amon Updike George Amon Updike, age 79, of Roanoke, passed away April 15, 1985, at the home of his daughter. He was a member of Vinton Baptist Church and a retired pipefitter for the Norfolk & Western Railway, with 47½ years of service. He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy Whitenack Updike. Surviving are his daughter, Myrtleine U. Gilmore; son-in-law, Raymond L. Gilmore; two grandchildren and their husbands, Theresa and John Whitacre of Winchester, Valerie and Jerry Martin of Richmond; five great-grandchildren, Carissa and Brian Whitacre, Ray, George and Edward Martin. Also surviving is a kind and faithful neighbor, Mildred K. Peters; a childhood friend, John W.Greer and several dear nieces and nephews. It is suggested that memorials be made to the Vinton Baptist Church Building Fund. Funeral services will be conducted from Oakey's Vinton Chapel 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 17th, 1985, with the Rev. Dr. William P. Warnock officiating. Burial will be in Fair View Cemetery. Burial will be in the Fair View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Vinton Baptist Church Building Fund. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Oakeys Vinton Chapel, 982-2221. on July 1, 2006.2

WELCH, July 30 — H. J. Harman, 55 years old, president of the Sandy River district. McDowell county, board of education, was at liberty today under $5,000 bond to await action of the grand jury on charges growing out of the death July 23 of Samuel H. Strickler, 74 years old, of Iaeger. Harman waived a preliminary hearing following his arrest yesterday and furnished bond. It was charged that the Saturday before Strickler's death he and Harman engaged in an altercation at Iaeger which resulted in blows. The following day, relatives of Strickler alleged, he suffered a stroke of appoplexy and died a few days later. on July 30, 1930.8
