He used this training to start his own excavating business in the New River Valley. Joe enjoyed fishing, traveling, and anything to do with cars. He attended many races and car shows throughout his life. In addition to his parents, his brother, Ralph Lafayette Poff of Floyd, Va. and niece, Linda Faye Poff Cox of Roanoke, Va., preceded him in death. He is survived by his children, Vicki Poff Wright and husband, Pat of Christiansburg, Va. and Joseph (Joey) Henry Poff, Jr. and wife, Amanda of Blacksburg, Va; four grandchildren, Paige Wright of Ft. Hood, Texas, Courtney Wright of Christiansburg, Va., Ella Poff and Luke Poff of Blacksburg, Va; two nieces, Darlene Poff Hansen of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. and Mildred Poff Banks of Fincastle, Va. The family would like that thank neighbors/friends Penny and Jeremy Smith, Dr. Julia Hemphill, Dr. Heather Brooks, and Carilion Hospice for their help during the Joe's illness. It was his wish that there be no services. on January 12, 2018.2
