Daniel I. Conner Sr.1

M, b. circa 1736, d. circa 1814
Daniel I. Conner Sr. was buried at Head of the River Cemetery (also known as Salem Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery), Rt. 221, Check, Floyd Co., Virginia.2 He From descendent William Clye Conner- I am 55 years old and have lived, except for about 5 years, while serving in the Navy, within site of and for the past 30 years my land and home has been the East and Northern boundaries of the Head of the River Cemetery. I am descended from 2 of Daniel I Conner, The settler's, sons. Andrew is my grandfather on my Dads side and Jonathan is my mothers grandfather. I am sure Daniel I and all three of his sons and maybe a daughter or two are buried very close to my boundary lines. There is an area in the Southeast corner of the old cemetery, around and above, where the original church stood that has only a few old unreadable soapstone tombstones and a few field stone markers. When I was a child playing around in the cemetery there were many rocks of all sizes that marked the graves of our long dead ancestors. Then sometimes back in the early 60's some of the leaders of the church decided to load all these "rocks" up in a truck and haul them off so mowing would be easier. Needless to say my father was pretty upset over it and untill the time he died he never got over it. I never thought to much about it untill I got interested in geneology and I scratch my head, just as my dad did, how any one in good conscious could have done it. It would be a crime today and probably was back then but I am positive many of the 1st and 2nd and even 3rd generation Conners were marked with those "rocks". I walk that section of the cemetery often and try to imagine where Daniel I, Andrew, and Jonathan are buried.3 He was born circa 1736 at Loudoun Co., Virginia. He married Mary Unknown circa 1763 at Loudoun Co., Virginia.1 Daniel I.
