"Miss Laura" taught in Montgomery County for 37 years. She was well loved by her students, their parents, and staff. She could always see her grown up students as they looked in the first grade. She often said, "Just as God never made a leaf alike, he never made a child that was like another one." After retiring from her teaching career, she went back to school and sold Real Estate for five years. She wasn't ready to retire yet, so she went back to school and obtained her C.N.A. and worked for Hospice. After this vocation, she started her own cake business and was known to many as the "cake lady." "Miss Laura" loved hats and seldom left the house without one. She was a faithful member of both the Blacksburg Christian Church and the Centennial Christian Church located in McCoy. She taught Sunday School at both churches for many years. "Miss Laura" often visited the sick, elderly and lonesome taking them one of her famous cakes. She lived a life dedicated to serving others and made her dreams come true. She is survived by a daughter, Victoria Mae Scott of Christiansburg; a son and daughter-in-law, Lon David and Eileen Scott of Mansfield, Mass; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Leo and Ruby Scott of McCoy; a brother-in-law, Cecil Whitaker of McCoy; two sisters-in-law, Iris Maddox of Texas and Agatha Austin of Check, Va; four grandchildren, Jay, Matt, Jenny and Laura; one great-grandchild, Justin; and a special friend, Jo Ann Bingham. A private graveside service will be conducted in the Scott Family Cemetery, McCoy. on July 28, 2000.1

Surviving grandchildren are Kim Ady of St. Louis, Mo., Scott Ady of Summit, N.J., Wendy Hauenstein Kimball and her husband, Greg of Washington, D.C; Joel Sayers of Virginia Beach, and Cory and Dean Sayers of Roanoke. A graveside service will be held in Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem at 11 a.m. Monday, August 4. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to International Myeloma Foundation, 2120 Stanley Heights Drive, Los Angeles, Calif. 90044. The Money & King Vienna Funeral Home is serving the family of Mrs. Sayers. on August 2, 1997.2

Jane retired from Roanoke Memorial Hospital as a nurse. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church for over 60 years. Jane was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Drewry. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth D. and E. Fulton Clark, of Stuart, Va; and a son and daughter-in-law, George W. and Carol H. Drewry, of Roanoke, Va. She is also survived by her six grandchildren, Victoria Baker, of Roanoke, Joseph Clark, of Stuart, William Clark, of New York City, N.Y., David Drewry, of Jamestown, N.C., Julie Drewry, of Roanoke and Kenneth Drewry, of Roanoke; seven greatgrandchildren. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 18, 2008, at Oakey's South Chapel with the Rev. Jim Churchwell officiating. The family suggests memorial donations may be made to the Roanoke Rescue Mission. Arrangements by Oakey's South Chapel, 989-3131. on November 17, 2008.2
