She was a member of the VFW Ladies auxiliary 7854. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, December 6, 2016 with Elder Carl Terry and Elder Alan Terry officiating with interment to follow at the Restvale Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, December 5, 2016 at Maberry Funeral Home.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salem Church or Floyd County Rescue Squad. on December 4, 2016.3

He later was employed by the Department of Defense (Navy) with BUPERS in Washington, D.C. and for the Chief of Naval Education and Training in Pensacola, Fla. as the Head of Educational Research from 1965 to 1986. His active and reserve duty extended over a thirty-year period. Between his active military duty and subsequent Department of Defense career, he taught Math and Physics at Fairfax High School, Fairfax, Va., during which time he also served as the Science Supervisor for the Fairfax School System. Surviving are his wife, Elaine Shepard Williams, and daughter, Anne Shepard Williams of Roanoke. Also surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Elaine Williams and their three children of Fairfax, Va; his daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Steve Coy, and their daughter, of Covington, La; his son, Michael, also of Covington, La; and his brother and sister-in-law Robert and Louise Williams, and their two children, of Clifton Forge, Va. Ray was graduated from Lynchburg College with a B.S. in Math and Physics and from George Washington University with a Masters Degree in School Administration. Throughout his life he continued postgraduate studies and, because of his belief in continuing education, one of his many accomplishments was to develop a program for other Education Specialists in the Department of Defense to obtain advanced degrees. Ray kept in contact with many of his students, some of whom chose math and physics careers as a result of his influence. His lifelong association with students, colleagues and bridge players provided him with enjoyment throughout his interesting and eventful life.
Ray will be interred with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery. on June 3, 1999.1
