Judy Ann Conner died on September 29, 2007 at Santa Barbara, Santa Barbara Co., California, at age 63.5,2,8,7 She On Saturday, September 29 2007, Judy Knowles died peacefully at home in Santa Barbara, with her close family at the bedside. She was born Judy Conner, and grew up in Roanoke, Virginia. She had one sister, Linda, but was part of a large family with many uncles, aunts and cousins. In her life she travelled far away from Virginia, but always remained very close to the family. Her vocation was nursing, and she qualified as an RN at the Community Hospital of Roanoke Valley. In 1972, she travelled to Australia and married an Englishman, Brian Knowles, who she had met in Virginia. Judy and Brian lived in Sydney, and then in Hong Kong where their first child Amy was born. In the late 1970s, they settled in California, and their son Stephen was born in San Jose. From 1984 to 1999, the family lived in Santa Cruz. Throughout this time Judy worked as a nurse, but was also a homemaker and gave her time to charities and to the childrens' schools. Judy and Brian moved to Santa Barbara in 2000. She joined the Las Aletas Auxiliary of the Santa Barbara Assistance League, and was active in their charitable programs. She was an enthusiastic gardener, and kept a beautiful flower garden at her home. She also made many friends through Jazzercize. Starting in 1996 she fought a brain tumor. Until 2005 she was able to live a full life, but in the last two years she faced and overcame many challenges from the disease and from the treatments that were required. Her strength in adversity, and her positive and uncomplaining attitude were remarkable and inspirational. She continued to enjoy her friends and family, to work in her garden and even attend Jazzercize until two months before her death from pneumonia. She is survived by Brian, her husband of nearly 35 years, by her children Amy and Stephen, by her sister Linda and brother-in law Tom and nieces Melissa and Cindy, and by her stepfather Aubrey. She will also be missed by many other relatives, and by close friends across the US and in other countries. She was always a most wonderful wife, mother, sister and friend. on October 4, 2007.7
