     Joyce Elaine Guthrie was born on January 25, 1942 at Salem, Roanoke Co., Virginia.^2,3,5 As of June 17, 1961,her married name was Harris.³ She married Harry Adrian Harris on June 17, 1961 at Salem, Roanoke Co., Virginia.³ Joyce Elaine Guthrie and Harry Adrian Harris were divorced on March 17, 1978 at Salem, Roanoke Co., Virginia.⁶ As of August 1, 1981,her married name was Pearson.³ Joyce Elaine Guthrie married Royall Stanford "Stan" Pearson on August 1, 1981 at Salem, Roanoke Co., Virginia.^1,3,4,5 Joyce Elaine Guthrie died on November 17, 2016 at Hickory, Catawba Co., North Carolina, at age 74.⁵ She HICKORY - Joyce G. "JP" Pearson passed away Thursday, Nov. 17, 2016 at Catawba Regional Hospice, after a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia. She was surrounded by a loving family and close friends. Born January 25, 1942, in Salem, Va., she was the daughter of Helen Guthrie and the late Howard Guthrie. She was a graduate of Andrew Lewis High School, Class of 1960. She was very proficient in business class and was an administrative assistant to the senior partner of a large architectural and engineering firm in Roanoke and later to the President of Roanoke College. JP was the first runner up in the Miss Roanoke County Pageant in 1960 and modeled part time for local department stores, a national catalog, and TV commercials. In 1981, she married her present husband, moved to Hickory, N.C., and worked as an administrative assistant to the owner and president of Hickory Printing Group. She decided to continue her education and attended Catawba Community College where she graduated with honors with an Associate Degree in Business Administration. She enrolled at Gardner Webb University and graduated Magna Cum Laude, with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. She then obtained her N.C. real estate broker's license and worked as a real estate broker for over twenty years until she retired. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 35 years, R.S. (Stan) Pearson, of the home; two sons, Reverend Lee Harris and wife, Carmen of Hampton, Va., Patrick Harris and wife, Summer of Hickory, N.C; two sisters, Judy Elliston of Salem, Va., Pam Poe and husband, Mike of Salem, Va; two brothers, Rodney Guthrie and wife, Vickie of Salem, Va., and Linwood Guthrie and wife, Jeannie of Delaware; three grandsons; a granddaughter; two stepsons; a stepdaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews. Joyce accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized at the Church of the Brethren in Roanoke, Va., when she was 12 years old, and she remained loyal to her church. on November 19, 2016.⁵

     Howard Lynwood Guthrie Howard L. Guthrie, 79, of Downingtown, PA, formerly of Newark, DE, passed away on December 8, 2019. He was born on June 16, 1940 to Howard M. and Helen G. Guthrie. He graduated from Andrew Lewis High School in Salem, VA and University of Delaware. Howard was the General Manager of Braunsteins in Wilmington, DE, enjoyed a successful career in Real Estate, and then eventually retired as a dedicated employee of MBNA Delaware. Howard was a faithful member of Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Newark, DE. He is survived by his wife Jeanne Gladden Guthrie, with whom he would have celebrated 50 years of marriage in August 2020. He is also survived by a daughter and son-in-law Robyn and Eric, daughter Renae, and four grandchildren: Hannah, Maya, Ethan, and Jacob, all of whom he loved deeply. Finally, he is survived by his mother Helen and three siblings: Pam, Pete and Judy, all from the Salem, VA area. He is preceded in death by his father and sister, Joyce.⁴ He was born on June 16, 1940 at Roanoke, Virginia.^2,3,4 He married Patricia Ann Barnes on July 8, 1961 at Dillon, Dillon Co., South Carolina.³ Howard Lynwood Guthrie and Patricia Ann Barnes were divorced on July 16, 1969 at Virginia Beach, Virginia.³ Howard Lynwood Guthrie married Jeanne Gladden in August, 1970.⁴ Howard Lynwood Guthrie died on December 8, 2019 at Downingtown, Chester Co., Pennsylvania, at age 79.⁴

     George Stanley Shields Jr. and Betty Jane Vest were divorced.³ George Stanley Shields Jr. was born on June 10, 1933 at Roanoke, Virginia.^1,2,3 He married Betty Jane Vest, daughter of Lawrence Howard Vest Sr. and Hursle Adell Bower, on June 3, 1961 at Roanoke, Virginia.¹ George Stanley Shields Jr. died on December 11, 2021 at Davidsonville, Anne Arundel Co., Maryland, at age 88.³ He George Stanley "Buddy" Shields Jr. died peacefully on Saturday, December 11, 2021, at the age of 88 at his home in Davidsonville, Md. The founder and owner of two wholesale optical labs, B&W Optical of Balitmore, Md., and Southeastern Optical Inc. of Roanoke, Va., he is survived by his wife, Maria Shields; his son, Tim Shields; granddaughter, Amanda Shields; stepdaughter, Angela Cheatham; niece, Lisa Manley (husband, David Manley) and grandnieces, Allison and Sara Manley; nephew, Mark Patterson (wife, Karen Patterson); grandnephews, Ryan, Charles and Grayson Patterson; great-nieces Amanda and Jolan Patterson; and brother-in-law Charles Garland. Born in Roanoke, Va. on June 10, 1933 to George Stanley Shields Sr. and Beulah Phelps, he was the youngest of three children, and predeceased by his siblings, Nancy Patterson and Jane Garland. He served in both the Army as a Private (SP2) and Electronics Specialist, and in the Marines from which he was honorably discharged in March of 1950. A two time cancer survivor, Buddy was sensitive to fellow cancer sufferers, particularly children. on December 15, 2021.³

She was the widow of Joseph A. Sowers. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Lucy Jo Ernst, Summerville, S.C; four sons, Frank Sowers, Freeman, W. Va., Scott Sowers, Salem, Ralph Sowers, Gate City, Paul Sowers, Pulaski; one sister, Mrs. Lillian Sowers, Christiansburg; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday, January 13, 1979, at 2:00 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Clarence Dishman and the Rev. Gary Kelly officiating, with interment in Jacksonville Cemetery. on January 18, 1979.³
