He has received the US Army Good Conduct Medal with bronze clasp 5 loops, Vietnam service medal, Vietnam campaign medal, Vietnam Gallantry Cross with palm and A Bronze Star Medal. He was a die hard Redskins fan that enjoyed fishing and eating crabs. His greatest joy in life was his children and his grandchildren. He was a ten year veteran of the United States Navy. Preceding him in death were his parents, Lillian Howard Poff and James Roscoe Poff. Jack worked as a roofer in home construction. He competed in the Hotter ‘N Hell bicycle race in the late 1990s. He had lived in the Olney area approximately 7 years. He was preceded in death by one brother, Gene Tuney Poff. Survivors include three brothers, James Henry Poff of Roanoke, Virginia, Charles Edward Poff and Ballard Lewis Poff both of Vinton, Virginia; and two sisters, Lois Christine Graybill of Roanoke and Shannie Lillian McKee of Vinton.      James Henry Poff was born on January 14, 1943 at Richmond, Virginia.⁸ He married Lois Elizabeth Collins in February, 1962 at Key West, Monroe Co., Florida.^3,5,7 James Henry Poff died on December 21, 2014 at Virginia at age 71.³ He James Henry Poff, 71, of Roanoke, died peacefully Sunday, December 21, 2014, after a long battle with cancer. He spent the day surrounded by loved ones. A United States Navy Veteran, stationed in Florida, he cooked on the USS Penguin and traveled throughout Europe. He married Lois in '62 in Key West; upon returning to Roanoke, he worked as a machinist for NFS Railroad and restored antique cars, a hobby which won him several awards and everlasting friendships. James had a passion for life, a passion for the vehicles he brought back to life, and a passion for his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Lois Poff; daughter, Dr. Lucinda Hodges (Roger); son, James Poff (Carrie); sisters, Lois Graybill and Shannie McKee; brothers, Eddie and Ballard Poff; and grandson, Alexander. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe and Lillian Poff; infant son, James Allan; and brothers, Jack and Gene. A Memorial will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, December 27, 2014, at the Grandview Heights Church of the Nazarene.      Charles Edward "Eddie" Poff was buried at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, 5737 Airport Road NW, Roanoke, Virginia.⁴ He was born on December 8, 1946 at Bedford, Bedford Co., Virginia.⁵ He married Lois Marie Boitnott on July 1, 1967 at Roanoke, Virginia.^3,4 Charles Edward "Eddie" Poff died on April 7, 2016 at Virginia at age 69.⁴ He Charles Edward (Eddie) Poff, 69, of Vinton, Va., passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe and Lillian Poff; brothers, James Henry Poff and twins, Jack and Gene Poff. Eddie was retired from Roanoke City School Board Maintenance Department as a HVAC Technician. He was a member of Vinton Baptist Church and his hobbies included playing golf and square dancing. Eddie was a member of the Botetourt Square Dance Club family.Survivors include his wife, Lois Boitnott Poff; son, James Edward (Buster) Poff; and daughter-in-law, Regina Poff. He was a proud G-Daddy to grandsons, Eric Braxton, Brandon Scott and Ryan Alexander Poff. Also surviving is his brother, Ballard Poff (Trudy); sisters, Lois Graybill (Ralph) and Shannie McKee; sisters-in-law, Lois C. Poff, Betty B. Cowan (Clayton) and Shirley D. Billy was a devoted and loving husband and father. He was a retired Chief Petty Officer from the U.S. Navy with twenty-three years of service. Prior to his illness, he was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church. He was predeceased by his parents, William and Laura H. Lawfield. Surviving are his devoted wife, Dana K. Lawfield and her children, Michael K. Murphy and his special friend, Courtney Renz and Rhiannon L. Murphy and Rachel Murphy; also Billy's children, William J. Lawfield and special friend, Tammy Wheeler, Taresa Nunn and husband, Dan, and Monica Lawfield and partner, Ann Holbrook, and their mother, Lois Graybill; and two sisters, Patricia VanHorn and Lorretta Dyer and their spouses. Mr. Lawfield will be greatly missed by his in-laws, Glenn and Gay Keith, his six grandchildren and all additional family members not mentioned.      Stella Alberta Miles Stella Alberta Miles Poff, age 99, died Saturday, February17, 2018 at the Bluefield Regional Hospital. Stella was preceded in death by her parents Asa and Sarah Miles of Keystone, West Virginia, husband Edward B. Poff of Bluewell, and most recently her sister Elva Miles Lockhart of Bluefield, Virginia. All of her other siblings passed in prior years. Surviving is her close friend Doloros "Boots" Poff of Bluewell, WV and many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews. She leaves behind many friends in her home community of Bluewell, as well as her church friends from Bluewell United Methodist Church where she was an active member and served as church treasurer for many years. Stella was born in McDowell County, West Virginia on August 4, 1918. She attended school in McDowell County and later was employed in the Keystone, West Virginia branch of the telephone company where she served as an operator. She then worked for GC Murphy in the business office in Northfork, West Virginia. She made lifelong friends at both the phone company and at Murphy's, and always enjoyed her friends' cards and visits. One of her favorite pastimes was family dinners and what her nieces who lived locally called their adventures. She enjoyed car trips and looking at pictures of family. She was a long time collector of salt and pepper shakers and glassware, and most who knew her always thought of bringing her back a souvenir when travelling to add to her collection. Stella was appreciated by her community and church for her loyalty and steadfastness. Her family cherished her sincere interest in their lives, her dry sense of humor, and her storytelling of days gone by, including her great amusement and pride in one of her nephews summarizing what he learned in church one Sunday by loudly proclaiming, "Let brotherly love continue!" It became one of her favorite verses (Hebrews 13:1). Entombment will follow at the Woodlawn Mausoleum in Bluewell.² She was buried at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Bluewell, Mercer Co., West Virginia.² She was born on September 4, 1918 at Keystone, McDowell Co., West Virginia.^1,2 As of December 21, 1946,her married name was Poff.¹ She married Edward Basil Poff, son of Charles Hugh Poff and Ollie Gay Poff, on December 21, 1946 at North Fork, McDowell Co., West Virginia.^3,1,4,2,5 Stella Alberta Miles died on February 17, 2018 at Bluefield, Mercer Co., West Virginia, at age 99.²

     Dorothy B. Schoen Dorothy B. Poff, 97, of Dover, Ohio and formerly of Steubenville died Friday, April 1, 2011 in the Park Village Health Care Center in Dover following a brief illness. Born December 19, 1913 in Bellaire, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late William H. and Nancy B. (Hickman) Schoen. Dorothy attended the Newpointe Community Church in Dover and was a former member of the Women's Club and Order of Eastern Star both in Steubenville. She was an avid reader and also enjoyed traveling and camping. She and her husband also spent many hours volunteering at the former Ohio Valley Hospital in Steubenville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Poff who died June 24, 2006. They were married 71 years prior to his passing. She was also preceded in death by a brother, James Schoen and a sister, Virginia Davis. Dorothy will be sadly missed by her two daughters and sons in law, Judy and Carl Bell of Dover and Marsha and Richard Montgomery of Uniontown; four grandchildren, Scott (Nancy) Bell of Dover, Kelly (Mike) Wood of Lynchburg, Va., Nancy (Mark) Byrd of Perry, Ohio and Julie (Scott) Aten of Hartville, Ohio along with ten great grandchildren and a sister, Lois Howells of Atlanta, Georgia. Dorothy' s life will be celebrated Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at 11:30am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover with her grandson, Scott Bell officiating. A reception will follow the service at the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center.
