Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Sadie L. and Charles Benn, Alexandria; son and daughter-in-law, David and Phyllis Whitlock Shank, Arlington and Check; sister, Christine Vest, Simpsons; brother, Ralph E. Light, Rochester, N.Y; four grandchildren, Rodney L. Kesler, Simpsons, Eric I. Shank, Arlington, Jennifer E. Monma, Honolulu, Hawaii, and John T. Shank, Scottsdale, Ariz; and four great-grandchildren, Matthew Kesler, Tanya Kesler, James Shank, and Daichi Monma. Graveside services will be at Sherwood Memorial Park, Salem, on Monday, April 9, 2001 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Lane Spiegener officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday and Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home, Floyd. Arrangements by Wood Funeral Home, Floyd. on April 7, 2001.7

Betty is survived by her son, Gary Wimmer and his wife, Kim, and grandson, Carson; and her son, Kevin and his wife, Robin; four sisters; two brothers; and numerous family members and close friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Wimmer; her daughter, Jill Wimmer; and several beloved family members. We would like to offer our heartfelt gratitude to Gentle Shepherd Hospice for caring for Mom during her battle. A special thanks to her friend, Sharon, for her constant dedication throughout... we are eternally grateful. Thanks also to Kevin and Robin for their love and support. Betty was known to all as an admirable, humble woman who always had a beautiful smile and a giving and loving nature. She was exceptional in her devotion and love for friends and family. The light of her life was her attachment, affection, and shared experiences with her grandson, Carson. They had an emotional bond filled with happiness and joy in every moment they shared together. Betty's beliefs in Jesus Christ and his teachings were steadfast and the way she lived her life set an example for others. While Betty was treasured on earth, she is now one of God's truly special angels in Heaven. We will miss her but will cherish our sweet memories and forever keep her alive in our hearts. Rest in glorious peace our dearly beloved Betty. Visitation hours will be from 2 until 4 p.m. on Saturday, January 28, 2017, at Oakey's North Chapel on Peters Creek Road. A Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 29, 2017, at Oakey's North Chapel with Pastor Hilton Jeffreys officiating. Interment will follow in the McKee Family Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethel Baptist Church or to Gentle Shepherd Hospice. on January 27, 2017.1

Douglas Lane Wimmer Douglas Lane “Boomerang” Wimmer, age 87, of Boones Mill, passed away on Sunday, May 8, 2022. He was predeceased by his parents, Dennis and Rachael Wimmer, two brothers and one sister. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Lynda Wimmer; four children, Ricky Wimmer, Kimberly (Craig) Alls, Steve (Marie) Wimmer, Tommy (Liana) Wimmer; one sister, Linda (Wayne) Clarkson; grandchildren, Lauren Alls, Jacob Wimmer, Haleigh Alls, Kayla Wimmer, Cora Wimmer, and Degan Wimmer; numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins. He was a carman/safety inspector for N&S Railroad for 39 years. Lane prided himself in putting three of his four kids through college. He was a self-taught musician and his favorite instrument was the banjo. Lane played in many bands, lead the music at bible study for years, sang and played for nursing homes. When his grandbabies would cry, he prided himself in getting them to sleep with his banjo. Lane was a 37-year member of Halesford Baptist Church. He loved playing horseshoes, cornhole, bowling, cards, and most sports. He also enjoyed watching his kids and grandkids play sports and supporting their interests. He loved “Lane food” such as potted meat, sardines, vienna sausages, cabbage, and cornbread. Lane and Lynda loved watching sports, Wheel of Fortune, and The Price is Right. Every morning, they worked the Word Jumble in the Roanoke Times. He was known for his corny jokes. Lane left behind many things that only he could make run. He loved to work with his hands and invent things. Conner and Louisa his wife and Nathan Conner and Eliza his wife and Isaac Conner and Caroline his wife and Daniel P. Conner and Elizabeth his wife and Andrew Conner and Matilda his wife heirs and representatives as aforesaid of William Conner deceased have this day bargain and sell ______released and confirmed and by these presents do bargain and sell _________release and confirm unto the said William P.
