     Sara Lou Van Meter Sara VanMeter Burlingame, 86, of Ravenswood, WV, went to be with the Lord on February 18, 2020, at Ravenswood Village. Sara was a graduate of Huntington High School in 1951. After graduation, she was employed with C & P Telephone Company as a toll and overseas operator. She served as Service Assistant Training Operator and Administrative Assistant to the Division Traffic Manager. Sara married the love of her life, Jack Dempsey Burlingame, in June of 1956. They started their life in Clarksburg, WV, where they adopted two little baby girls, Tracey Sue and Holli Mae. Sara was a devoted wife and mother and a contributor to her community serving as Camp Fire Girls troop leader, Sunday school teacher, PTA parent, Treasurer to Senator Karen Facemire, Charter member of the Jackson County Pilot Club, and President of the Mountain Craft Art & Craft Fair in 1998-1999. Sara is survived by her brother, Irvin VanMeter Junior (Mrs. Nancy VanMeter) of Charleston, and her daughter, Holli (Mr. Brocklin Vanater); grandchildren, Christine, Heather, Joshua, and Sara; great grandchildren, River, Jack, Ella, Noah, and Sage; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Irvin and Mattie Mae; infant son, Stephen Drew; daughter, Tracey; and husband of 53 years, Jack D. Burlingame. Sincere thanks to the devoted and loving staff at Ravenswood Village. The funeral service will be held on Friday, February 21, 2020, at 12:00 pm at Roush Funeral Home in Ravenswood with Pastor Chris Skeens officiating. Mrs. Poff was the first woman in the country to carry mail by horseback. She started delivering mail in 1928 at St. Albans, W.Va., and continued for several years. Later she examined documents that were submitted for trademark to the federal Commerce Department in Washington. She retired in 1965. Her husband, James Murray Poff, died in 1953. She is survived by two sons, Richard C., of Crystal Springs, Fla., and Col. Edward H., of San Antonio, Texas; two daughters, Carol J. Shulley of Carpenters Point, Md., and Patricia Ann Frese of Washington, D.C; two sisters, Laura Roman of Pekin, Ill., and Tempie Grogan of St. Albans; 20 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Parklawn Cemetery, Rockville. on July 19, 1978.2

He blessed his family with travel and adventure with stations all across the US as well as Germany Japan Pakistan Greece and Thailand. After retiring from the Air Force in 1976 Edward attended St. Philip's College earning an AAS summa cum laude in Air Conditioning & Refrigeration. Of his many hobbies fishing was his passion. He enjoyed teaching all of his children to fish and appreciate the Texas coast. Edward's love of his family humility humor and great kindness will be sincerely missed. He is preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers; and 2 sisters. Survivors are his loving wife of 66 years Winifred L. Poff; children, Constance Carter, Laurence Poff & wife Sandy, David Poff & wife Kyong, Stephen Poff, Timothy Poff & wife Kathy, Sally Poff, Catherine Morales & husband Jose, and Kenneth Poff & wife Elizabeth; 8 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren. Interment in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. on October 7, 2012.7

He was a member of Highlawn Presbyterian Church, where he was an elder and clerk of session. He helped to organize the Walk Against Hunger at the church and will be remembered for his wonderful singing voice and kindness to all who knew him. He was also a WWII veteran with the U.S. Army. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 10, at Highlawn Presbyterian Church, St. Albans, with Pastor Helen Young officiating. A private burial will be in Graceland Memorial Park, Ruth. Friends may visit from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made in his memory to Highlawn Presbyterian Church, 2501 Washington Ave., St. Albans, WV 25177. on July 9, 2010.3

She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Dundlow and husband, Jerry of Virginia Beach, Va., and Jane Cruey and husband, Tooter of Clinchburg, Va; step-daughter, Cheryl Lacy; three sisters, Betty Dearen and husband, Cecil of Duncan, Okla., Doris Taylor of Marlow, Okla., and Peggy Ainsworth and husband, Bobby of Oak Grove, La; five grandchildren, Ross Dundlow, Amanda Kent, Cody Cruey, Travis Cruey, and Rusty Cruey; step-grandson, Matthew Smith; six great grandchildren, Kayla Kent, Ross Dundlow, Cameron Kent, Graham Dundlow, Kipton Cannon, and Nolan Cruey; step great grandson, Ian Smith; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, August 25, 2016, at the Church of New Beginnings, 10495 Forest Hills Drive, Glade Spring, VA 24340, with Pastor Jeff Wallace and Pastor Dennis Blazier officiating. A committal service will follow at Mt. Rose Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12 until 1 p.m. Thursday at the church prior to the service. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the physicians and nurses at Holston Valley Medical Center. on August 24, 2016.2
