Booty was a member of Fayetteville United Methodist Church where he served as Sunday school superintendent and usher for many years. He graduated from Gauley Bridge High School and served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He retired in 1978 from Union Carbide, Alloy, after 44 years of service where he was a maintenance supervisor. He was very active in the community, enjoyed talking to people, calling Bingo at the American Legion, doing charity work and working at the Fayetteville United Methodist Church Food Pantry. He was active in several organizations, including: past commander of American Legion Post 149, Fayetteville, past president of the Fayetteville Lions Club, helping the sight conservation project and the Adopt-a-Highway project, past president of the local chapter of AARP, past member of the Fayette County Democratic Executive Committee, a past member of the Fayetteville Town Council, served two years in the Silver-Haired Legislature, was a member of the Association of Retired School Employees, voice of Fayetteville High School football for approximately 40 years, a member of the FHS Coordinating Committee for the senior graduation party and was proud to be the oldest member of the "Angel" support group. His wife, Edith Blanche Poff Bess; and his brother, Robert Leon "R.L." Bess, preceded him in death. Survivors include his four sons and their wives, Norman and Barbara Bess of Richmond, Va., Joe and Beth Bess of San Antonio, Texas, Lee and Mollie Bess of Richmond, Va., Claude and Kay Bess of Fayetteville; two daughters and their husbands, the Rev. Claudette and the Rev. Max Nichols of Christiansburg, Va., Rebecca and Grant Cherrington of Charlotte, N.C; 23 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Burial will follow in Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville, with military rites conducted by VFW Post 3110, Oak Hill. on October 29, 2004.2

The Rev. Nichols served the Lord through the Pastoral Ministry for 40 years. He served Churches of God in Chatham Hill and Broadford, Va; New Martinsville, W.Va; Huntsville, Ala; Scott Depot, W.Va; Greenville, Tenn; Summerville, S.C; Wise, Va; Princeton, Ind; and Christiansburg, Va. All through his pastoral life, the Rev. Nichols had a love for people. God allowed many Godly and interesting people to enter his life. He always felt that he was blessed by God more than he was ever able to bless. The Rev. Nichols will be laid to rest in Huntsville Memory Garden in Huntsville, Ala. on November 12, 2009.2

Snidow, 54, of the Athens Road died at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Hospital from a coronary attack suffered earlier at his home. Born Oct. 9, 1904, at Narrows, Va., he was a car inspector for the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway at Hinton. He had been furloughed for a few months due to his physical condition. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Leona Poff Snidow; one son, E. Eugene Snidow of Princeton; three half brothers, Ira Blankenship of Paint Bank, Va., and Emmett and Raymond Blankenship, both of Arlington, Va; three half sisters, Mrs. Hobart Tracy of Narrows, Va., and Mrs. Roy Holliday and Mrs. Helen Shevos, both of Martinsville, Va; and one grandchild. The funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Friday in the Kee Street Methodist Church with the Rev. Richard Crickard and the Rev. Clayton Sweet in charge. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Edwin M. Wiley, Raymond Dishner, W. C. Keaton, Phillip Bailey, Thurman Queen, C. F. Hill, Paul York and A. A. White. Members of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class of the church will carry flowers. The body was removed from the Seaver Mortuary to his residence at 4 p.m. today and be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Friday. on November 7, 1958.3

He was a veteran of U.S. Army, serving as a paratrooper in World War II, receiving, among other medals, the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Rev. Snidow served with the United Methodist Churches in Hollywood, Fort Lauderdale, Marathon and Sebring. He was a life member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Disabled American Veterans, and the 101st Airborne Division Association. He was active as a chaplain in the Civil Air Patrol and attained the grade of lieutenant colonel. He is survived by his wife, Louise (Elswick) Snidow and a son, Roy Eugene Snidow Jr. of Sunrise, Fla. on August 14, 2009.5
