Paxton, circa 1902.9,10,11,8,12 Rev. Jonathan Franklin "John" Elmore died on May 22, 1951 at Charleston, Kanawha Co., West Virginia, at age 72.2,8 He Rev. John F. Elmore, 72, retired Advent Christian minister, died early yesterday morning in a local hospital after a long illness. He lived at 609 Hillsdale Dr. Service will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow in the First Advent Christen Church. Rev. Herbert Spencer of Parkersburg will Officiate and burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park. The body is at the Bartlett Mortuary and will be taken to the church an hour before the service. Mr. Elmore had been a minister 51 years before his retirement Aug. 27, 1950. His last pastorate was the Elmore Memorial Advent Christian Church, where he served 35 years. A native of Clay County, he came to Charleston in 1913 and took over the pastorate of the First Advent Christian Church on Randolph St. At that time he had been a minister for 14 years. He was ordained to the ministry in 1899. The Elmore Church as named for Rev. R. C. Elmore, an uncle of Mr. Elmore. In addition to church work he was affiliated with Elkana Lodge No. 95, IOFF. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Nilla Procious Elmore; a daughter, Mrs. Orville Reynolds, and a sister, Mrs. Letha Schoolcraft, both of Charleston. on May 23, 1951.8

Altizer, on March 5, 1938 at Floyd Co., Virginia.2,3 Artis Ray Altizer died on September 24, 2003 at Smyth Co., Virginia, at age 91.1,7 He ALTIZER, Artis Ray, 91, died Wednesday, September 24, 2003 at the Francis Marion Manor in Marion, Va. He was born in Floyd County to the late Fugate Clark and Lula Light Altizer. He was a member of the Marion Baptist Church and retired from Harwood Corporation after 44 years as a designer. Survivors include his wife, Leona Altizer of Marion, Va; three sons, Bobby Altizer of Marion, Eddie Altizer of Hilton Head Island, S.C., David Altizer of Marion; two brothers, Edgar Altizer of Christiansburg, Clinton Altizer of Christiansburg; and sister, Sadie Guthrie of Christiansburg. Six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, September 26, 2003 at the Rosewood Memorial Gardens in Rural Retreat, with Rev. Neville Mozingo officiating. There will be no public visitation. Friends are asked to join at the cemetery for services. Bradley's Funeral Home, Marion is serving the Altizer family. on September 25, 2003.1

He was born on June 30, 1915 in Pleasant Valley, Floyd County, Virginia. He was the son of the late Fugett Clark Altizer and Lula Light Altizer. He retired from Hercules, Inc. at the Radford Arsenal in May, 1980 with 38 years of service, as a supervisor in the Utilities Department. During his last two years of service he was an instructor and teacher in the Utilities Department where he taught math and biology to help the water and sewage workers get Virginia State Certification. He was a member of the Christiansburg Church of the Brethren for more than 50 years. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Mabel Bowyer Altizer of Christiansburg; children and spouses, Rodney and Linda Altizer of Christiansburg; Dixie and Dr. Roger Thurman of Wilson, N.C; Rebecca and Pete Whitlock and Carlos Altizer of Christiansburg; grandchildren, Derek Altizer and Dana Partin; Bianca Thurman, Roger Zalon Thurman, Jr., Gregory Whitlock, Stephen Whitlock, Brock Whitlock, Jocelyn Sanders and Clayton Altizer; nine great grandchildren; sister, Sadie Guthrie of Christiansburg; special friends Robin Beeken and Judy Nichols. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Horne Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 13, 2005 at the Christiansburg Church of the Brethren with Pastor Don Peters officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, at the Horne Funeral Home in Christiansburg. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 11, 2006 at the Christiansburg Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Cheryl Peeples and the Rev. Richard H. Horne officiating.
