     Cathy Lynn Hesteande Cathy Lynn Sides, 62, was surrounded by loved ones at her home as she went to be with our Lord on March 4, 2023, in Chico. Cathy was born on May 13th, 1960 to Lawrence and Bobbie Hesteande in Decatur, Texas, and was raised in Slidell. She married Jackie Sides on June 3rd, 1978, and they made a home in Chico for themselves and their children. Known as Hot Nana by her grandchildren, Cathy loved spending time with her family, attending ball games, riding her motorcycle, drinking bloody Mary's, and frequenting Winstar when she got the chance. Cathy spent most of her career working with animals and was an advocate against animal cruelty. She worked in animal services for the city of Decatur and Wise County for the past 30-plus years. She was preceded in death by her husband Jackie Sides; her parents, Lawrence, Bobbie, and Barbara Hesteande; her sisters Penny Shurbet, and Brenda Walker; her brothers, John and Rusty Hesteande; and her grandson, Barrett Sides. Those left behind to cherish her memory are her children, Dusty Sides and wife Brandi, Lana Simmons and husband Josh, Toby Sides and wife Mary, step daughter Melissa Berry and husband Travis; her sisters, Ruth Swanson, Amy Adams, Jill Richards; and her 14 grandchildren.⁴ She was buried at Chico Cemetery, Chico, Wise Co., Texas.⁵ She was born on May 13, 1960 at Decatur, Wise Co., Texas.⁴ As of June 3, 1978,her married name was Sides.¹ She married Jackie Glenn Sides, son of Melvin Earl Sides and Lawana June Prater, on June 3, 1978 at Wise Co., Texas.^1,3,4 Cathy Lynn Hesteande died on March 4, 2023 at Chico, Wise Co., Texas, at age 62.⁴

He was a member of First Baptist Church, Hurricane, where he was a former deacon, and a member of Putnam Masonic Lodge 139, Scottish Rite Bodies, Beni Kedem Shrine and St. Albans Junior Order of Mechanics. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a lifelong resident of Putnam County. Surviving: wife, Glendon Jarrett Chase; daughter, Mary Katherine Means of Hurricane; sister, Linda Chase Riffle of St. Albans; brothers, Elmir E. of Scott Depot, Billy L. of Hurricane; granddaughter, Barbara Jo Jarvis of Lexington, Ky. Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church, with Dr. Michael Derry officiating. Burial with Masonic graveside rites will be in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. on February 19, 1996.⁶

Riffle of St. Albans; seven grandchildren. Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Mount Vernon Baptist Church with Pastor Lee White and the Rev. Paul B. Morton officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane. on February 3, 1989.⁸

     Ronald Keith Chase was buried at Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Montrose, Randolph Co., West Virginia.⁴ He was born on January 1, 1925 at Hurricane, Putnam Co., West Virginia.^2,3,4 He married Sylvia Fern Linn on November 24, 1951 at Elkins, Randolph Co., West Virginia.² Ronald Keith Chase died on August 15, 1971 at age 46.⁴

     Elmie Emmett Chase Elmie Emmett Chase, 89 of Scott Depot, passed away on April 28, 2016. He was born on February 1, 1927 to Emmett Milton and Fannie Florence Chase of Hurricane. Preceding him in death were his loving wife Anna Lou Lambert Chase, his parents, brothers Williard, Harley, Ronald, Billy and sister Linda Riffle. Elmie was a faithful Christian, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a dear friend to so many who loved him. Always putting others first, Elmie was a kind and loving man. He always had a story to tell and many of them were about the 33 years he was employed by Union Carbide. Elmie never met a stranger. He was a member of the Putnam Masonic Lodge #139 A.F. & A.M. and the Scottish Rite Bodies, Charleston. Left to cherish his memory are his son Elmie Randall Chase of Scott Depot, daughter Karen and son-in-law Donald Wilson of St. Albans; grandchildren Sean and his wife Melissa, Trevor Chase, Elizabeth and her husband, Matthew Bobbera, Ashley Wilson, great-grandchildren, Matthew, Cameron, Audrey, Hannah, Autumn, Thomas and Alex, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Riffle was born February 27, 1929, in Putnam County, a daughter of the late Emmett Melton and Fannie Purdy Chase. She retired as a teller from BB&T. Surviving are her husband, Charles Riffle; son, James "Jim" W. Hardie and wife, Pam, of Ocean Isle Beach, N.C; two brothers, Elmie Chase of St. Albans and William "Billy" Chase of London, Ohio; two grandchildren, Amy Flora and Jason Hardie; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, March 5, at Brunswick Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. John Gambriel officiating. Interment will be private in Brunswick Memorial Gardens. on March 3, 2012.⁵

Billy Lawrence Chase, 83, of London, Ohio formerly of Hurricane, WV, husband of Cora Mae Chase, died Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at Drs. Hospital, Columbus, OH of complications due to kidney disease. He was a US Army veteran, retired line foreman from Appalachian Power Co. and a member of Adda Baptist Church. Graveside services will be conducted Monday, August 18, 2014 at Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane, WV, with Rev. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hollis and Icie Stephens; and sister, Jean Davis. She is survived by her children, Sharon Francisco and husband Mike of Hurricane, Clara Rhodes and husband Eddie of Hometown and Jeff Chase of Nitro; sisters, O'Dell Bailey of Buffalo, Eva Barnett of Hometown and Linda Morgan of Hurricane; brothers, Otis Stephens of Hometown and Arnold "Buck" Stephens of Poca; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A tribute to the life of Mrs. Opal Stephens Chase will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, June 29, 2009, at Perrow Evangelical Presbyterian Church with Pastor Keith Cobb officiating. Entombment will follow in Haven of Rest Memory Gardens, Red House. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
