Cathy Lynn Hesteande Cathy Lynn Sides, 62, was surrounded by loved ones at her home as she went to be with our Lord on March 4, 2023, in Chico. Cathy was born on May 13th, 1960 to Lawrence and Bobbie Hesteande in Decatur, Texas, and was raised in Slidell. She married Jackie Sides on June 3rd, 1978, and they made a home in Chico for themselves and their children. Known as Hot Nana by her grandchildren, Cathy loved spending time with her family, attending ball games, riding her motorcycle, drinking bloody Mary's, and frequenting Winstar when she got the chance. Cathy spent most of her career working with animals and was an advocate against animal cruelty. She worked in animal services for the city of Decatur and Wise County for the past 30-plus years. She was preceded in death by her husband Jackie Sides; her parents, Lawrence, Bobbie, and Barbara Hesteande; her sisters Penny Shurbet, and Brenda Walker; her brothers, John and Rusty Hesteande; and her grandson, Barrett Sides. Those left behind to cherish her memory are her children, Dusty Sides and wife Brandi, Lana Simmons and husband Josh, Toby Sides and wife Mary, step daughter Melissa Berry and husband Travis; her sisters, Ruth Swanson, Amy Adams, Jill Richards; and her 14 grandchildren.4 She was buried at Chico Cemetery, Chico, Wise Co., Texas.5 She was born on May 13, 1960 at Decatur, Wise Co., Texas.4 As of June 3, 1978,her married name was Sides.1 She married Jackie Glenn Sides, son of Melvin Earl Sides and Lawana June Prater, on June 3, 1978 at Wise Co., Texas.1,3,4 Cathy Lynn Hesteande died on March 4, 2023 at Chico, Wise Co., Texas, at age 62.4

Elmie Emmett Chase Elmie Emmett Chase, 89 of Scott Depot, passed away on April 28, 2016. He was born on February 1, 1927 to Emmett Milton and Fannie Florence Chase of Hurricane. Preceding him in death were his loving wife Anna Lou Lambert Chase, his parents, brothers Williard, Harley, Ronald, Billy and sister Linda Riffle. Elmie was a faithful Christian, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a dear friend to so many who loved him. Always putting others first, Elmie was a kind and loving man. He always had a story to tell and many of them were about the 33 years he was employed by Union Carbide. Elmie never met a stranger. He was a member of the Putnam Masonic Lodge #139 A.F. & A.M. and the Scottish Rite Bodies, Charleston. Left to cherish his memory are his son Elmie Randall Chase of Scott Depot, daughter Karen and son-in-law Donald Wilson of St. Albans; grandchildren Sean and his wife Melissa, Trevor Chase, Elizabeth and her husband, Matthew Bobbera, Ashley Wilson, great-grandchildren, Matthew, Cameron, Audrey, Hannah, Autumn, Thomas and Alex, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He loved them all and was quick to share that with everyone. We would like to thank the staff at Teays Valley Center for their excellent and loving care. Also special thanks to his angel here on earth, his care-giver Clara Rhodes, her husband Ed and their family. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Monday, May 2, 2016 at Chapman Funeral Home, Hurricane with the Reverend Richie McNiel officiating. Mrs. Chase was a member of Perrow Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Woman's Society and supervisor of the prayer chain. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hollis and Icie Stephens; and sister, Jean Davis. She is survived by her children, Sharon Francisco and husband Mike of Hurricane, Clara Rhodes and husband Eddie of Hometown and Jeff Chase of Nitro; sisters, O'Dell Bailey of Buffalo, Eva Barnett of Hometown and Linda Morgan of Hurricane; brothers, Otis Stephens of Hometown and Arnold "Buck" Stephens of Poca; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A tribute to the life of Mrs. Opal Stephens Chase will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, June 29, 2009, at Perrow Evangelical Presbyterian Church with Pastor Keith Cobb officiating. Entombment will follow in Haven of Rest Memory Gardens, Red House. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations be made to Perrow Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 5345 Big Tyler Rd., Cross Lanes, WV 25313.
