     Charles Arlen Cheek Sr. Charles Arlen Cheek, born January 10, 1930, passed peacefully in his home into the arms of his Savior, surrounded by his family, on February 1, 2024. Charles, also known as Buddy to his family, is preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Mamie Cheek; his siblings, Evelyn, Otis Jr., Dottie, and Edith; and his son, Charles Arlen Jr. He is survived by his wife of 72.5 years, Mary Louise Ferguson Cheek; his children, Mark (Lisa), David (Jennifer), Graham (Andrea), Jeannie (Doug), and Carla (Arturas); 15 fabulous grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a plethora of cousins and other relatives. Charles was raised in Roanoke, VA, where he graduated from Jefferson Senior High School and attended Southern Business College. With the outbreak of the Korean War, he joined the United States Air Force. He served and lived in Vermont, Texas, Korea, and Virginia (Langley Air Force Base). While in Korea, Charles earned the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Korean Service Medal with two bronze stars. Upon discharge from the Air Force, Charles graduated from the College of William and Mary. He worked and subsequently retired from the Virginia Department of Corrections where he was a Certified Internal Auditor. God blessed Charles with leadership and selflessness, which was evident in his association with St. Andrews United Methodist Church (principally as Chairman of the Trustees); Tuckahoe Little League (manager and president); Tuckahoe Sports Inc. (board member and president); YMCA Indian Guides (Nations Chief), J. R. Tucker Booster Club (president), Youth Football (coach and manager), and various professional organizations.3 He was buried at Westhampton Memorial Park, 10000 Patterson Avenue, Tuckahoe, Henrico Co., Virginia.3 He was born on January 10, 1930 at Roanoke, Virginia.1,2,3 He married Mary Louise Ferguson, daughter of Francis Eugene Ferguson Jr. and Zena Matilda "Mattie" Smith, on July 31, 1951 at Roanoke, Virginia.1,4,3 Charles Arlen Cheek Sr. died on February 1, 2024 at Virginia at age 94.3
