Bill was born in Pittsburgh, PA and graduated from West Liberty College in West Virginia where he met his wife and soul mate of 65 years, Maxine. He joined the Navy after the bombing of Pearl Harbor and was stationed in Corvallis, Oregon where he helped set up Camp Adair and served as a physical therapist. After the war Bill and Maxine returned to Pittsburgh for a brief time, but made their home in Oregon for the better part of the next 10 years. Bill's presence was felt in the small town of Drain where he was "The Coach". He coached his football, baseball and basketball teams to five State Championships. He was also instrumental in building the Veterans' Memorial Swimming Pool and organizing a semi-pro baseball team, the Drain Black Socks, and coached his team to the National Championship. In 1952, Bill joined Business Men's Assurance Company as a salesman where he excelled, qualifying for the Million Dollar Round Table each and every year. In 1954 he was promoted to Branch Manager of the Sacramento BMA office where he mentored and supervised as many as 50 salesmen at one time. Bill remained active during his entire career with the Lions Club. In 1978, Bill retired from BMA. He and Maxine returned once again to their Oregon roots in 1999 to enjoy each other, their grandchildren, great-grandchildren and see the world. Bill is survived by his wife, Maxine; two daughters, Linda and her husband Keith Lovett and Karen and her husband Harold Weight; two sons, William and his wife Gwen and Bob and his wife Jan; 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. on November 11, 2006.2
