She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Marvin “Mac” Via MacMackin; son, Gary (Teresa); daughters, Rebecca (Robert), Cindi Lou (Mark), Reta (Tim); grandchildren, Greg (Karie), Jason, Keith (Megan), Chad, Sarabeth, Gerisue; five great-grandchildren; siblings, Colleen Moore, Buddy Keith, Jean Hurst, Larry Keith and countless other family members. The family will receive friends at Horne Funeral Home on Monday, April 21, 2014, from 6 - 8 p.m. Funeral services will be in the Chapel on Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at 1 p.m. with Rev. David Keaton officiating. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Geraldine Keith MacMackin; and brother, Albert MacMackin. He is survived by his son, Gary (Teresa); daughters, Rebecca (Robert), Cindi Lou (Mark), Reta Faye (Tim); grandchildren, Greg (Karie), Jason (Audrey), Keith (Megan), Chad, Sarabeth, Gerisue; and six great-grandchildren. Mac was a member of the famed Timberwolves, the Army’s 104th Infantry. He earned numerous medals, badges and ribbons during The Battle of The Bulge. He was proud of his life accomplishments; as a soldier in the US Army during World War II, his business, M.V. MacMackin Construction and Development Co., and the birth of his four children. His family is forever indebted to the Salem Veterans Affairs Palliative/Hospice unit for the care they provided. on August 31, 2016.³

     Charles Edward "Buddy" Keith Sr. was buried at Piedmont Cemetery, Rt. 11 to Shawsville, turn at nursing home, Rt. 637, about 8 miles on the left, Montgomery Co., Virginia.² He was born on November 3, 1933 at Montgomery Co., Virginia.^2,3 He married Martha Sherrard Grice on April 28, 1956 at Salem, Roanoke Co., Virginia.^4,6 Charles Edward "Buddy" Keith Sr. and Martha Sherrard Grice were divorced on August 6, 1979 at Roanoke Co., Virginia.⁵ Charles Edward "Buddy" Keith Sr. married Mildred Mae "Millie" Graham, daughter of Charles Taylor Graham and Lilly Bell Dyerle, on October 6, 1979 at Montgomery Co., Virginia.¹ Charles Edward "Buddy" Keith Sr. and Mildred Mae "Millie" Graham were divorced on May 10, 1984 at Montgomery Co., Virginia.⁵ Charles Edward "Buddy" Keith Sr. died on February 25, 2019 at Virginia at age 85.² He Charles Edward (Buddy) Keith, 85, our beloved Dad, Poppie, uncle, dear brother, and faithful friend, was called home to be with his Lord on Monday, February 25, 2019. Born on November 3, 1933, Buddy grew up in the Alleghany Springs area of Shawsville, Va., and graduated from the local high school there in 1951. Buddy served proudly in the United States Army during the Korean War. Throughout his life he had been employed by the N&W Railroad, General Electric, and then as an independent contractor for home repair and insurance companies. Buddy was well known to friends and family for his youthful spirit, his sense of adventure, a warm and generous character, and a deep commitment to family. Buddy enjoyed spending time with his children, and was immensely devoted to his grandchildren, his loving siblings, and all of his wonderful nieces, nephews, and cousins. He brought us great joy and was always a source of wisdom and counsel. Buddy was a devout Christian, and joyfully attended the Bethel Assembly of God church in Salem where he served as deacon for several years. Buddy was met in Heaven by his beloved parents, Lawrence and Hazel Keith; and his beloved sister, Geraldine MacMackin. He is survived by his children, Kathy Vail Pope and her husband, Art, of Raleigh N.C., Karen Hensley of Salem, Va., and Chuck Keith of Raleigh, N.C; grandchildren, Nicholas Vail, Erin Hensley, Jenna Hensley, Jordan Hensley, Joyce Pope, and Earle Pope; siblings, Colleen Moore of Salem, Jean Hurst of Shawsville, and Larry Keith of Shawsville; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family is immeasurably grateful to the caregivers who filled Buddy's life with joy, premium care, and above all genuine love, compassion, and friendship. Special thanks for the care and devotion of his granddaughter, Jenna Hensley, who has been the "light of his life". The family would also like to express their appreciation to the Salem VA Medical Center, Home Based Health Program, and Gentle Shepherd Hospice for their guidance and support. A period of visitation will be hosted from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, March 1, 2019 by John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2019, in the funeral home's chapel. Burial will follow at Piedmont Cemetery in Alleghany Springs. She was a 1955 graduate of Shawsville High School, and was a devoted daughter and mother. Preceding her in death were her parents, Lafayette Joseph and Hazel Kirkwood Grice; former husband, Charles Edward Keith; and brother-in-law, Floyd Erdmann. Her surviving family includes her sister, Ann Grice Erdmann; children, Katherine Keith Pope (James), Karen Keith Hensley, and Charles "Chuck" Keith II; grandchildren, Nicholas Vail, Jenna Hensley, and Jordan Hensley; step-granddaughter, Erin Hensley; two nephews; one niece; and many cousins. The family extends sincere appreciation to all of Martha's loving caregivers including those of Good Samaritan Hospice.
