She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Marvin “Mac” Via MacMackin; son, Gary (Teresa); daughters, Rebecca (Robert), Cindi Lou (Mark), Reta (Tim); grandchildren, Greg (Karie), Jason, Keith (Megan), Chad, Sarabeth, Gerisue; five great-grandchildren; siblings, Colleen Moore, Buddy Keith, Jean Hurst, Larry Keith and countless other family members. The family will receive friends at Horne Funeral Home on Monday, April 21, 2014, from 6 - 8 p.m. Funeral services will be in the Chapel on Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at 1 p.m. with Rev. David Keaton officiating. The family will receive friends at Horne Funeral Home on Thursday, September 1, 2016, from 6-8 p.m. A Military Graveside Service will be held on Friday, September 2, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Piedmont Cemetery, Alleghany Spring Road, Shawsville, VA. Mac was a member of the famed Timberwolves, the Army’s 104th Infantry. He earned numerous medals, badges and ribbons during The Battle of The Bulge. He was proud of his life accomplishments; as a soldier in the US Army during World War II, his business, M.V. MacMackin Construction and Development Co., and the birth of his four children. His family is forever indebted to the Salem Veterans Affairs Palliative/Hospice unit for the care they provided. on August 31, 2016.3

Buddy served proudly in the United States Army during the Korean War. Throughout his life he had been employed by the N&W Railroad, General Electric, and then as an independent contractor for home repair and insurance companies. Buddy was well known to friends and family for his youthful spirit, his sense of adventure, a warm and generous character, and a deep commitment to family. Buddy enjoyed spending time with his children, and was immensely devoted to his grandchildren, his loving siblings, and all of his wonderful nieces, nephews, and cousins. He brought us great joy and was always a source of wisdom and counsel. Buddy was a devout Christian, and joyfully attended the Bethel Assembly of God church in Salem where he served as deacon for several years. Buddy was met in Heaven by his beloved parents, Lawrence and Hazel Keith; and his beloved sister, Geraldine MacMackin. He is survived by his children, Kathy Vail Pope and her husband, Art, of Raleigh N.C., Karen Hensley of Salem, Va., and Chuck Keith of Raleigh, N.C; grandchildren, Nicholas Vail, Erin Hensley, Jenna Hensley, Jordan Hensley, Joyce Pope, and Earle Pope; siblings, Colleen Moore of Salem, Jean Hurst of Shawsville, and Larry Keith of Shawsville; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family is immeasurably grateful to the caregivers who filled Buddy's life with joy, premium care, and above all genuine love, compassion, and friendship. Special thanks for the care and devotion of his granddaughter, Jenna Hensley, who has been the "light of his life". The family would also like to express their appreciation to the Salem VA Medical Center, Home Based Health Program, and Gentle Shepherd Hospice for their guidance and support. A period of visitation will be hosted from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, March 1, 2019 by John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2019, in the funeral home's chapel. Burial will follow at Piedmont Cemetery in Alleghany Springs. Pastor David Keaton will officiate. on February 28, 2019.2

Grace was retired from the Roanoke City Schools and was preceded in death by her husband, Simon Akers; her daughter, Barbara Akers Manning; her son-in-law, Larry Neal Angle; her parents, Charles M. and Zula Keith; her brothers, Oliver Ray Keith, Clarence William Keith and Lawrence Walter Keith; her sister, Clara Jane Linkenhoker. Surviving is a daughter, Bonnie Akers Angle; granddaughters and spouses, Amy Angle Bailey and husband, Jerry Wayne Bailey, Jr., Kristy Manning Stinnette and husband, James G. Stinnette; great-granddaughters, Caitlin Nicole Bailey and Megan Elizabeth Stinnette; her sister, Ollie Mae Wood; many loving nephews, nieces, and devoted friends. Services will be at Oakey's South Chapel, 11 a.m. Monday, September 30, 2002. The Rev. Frank Feather will officiate. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Oakey's South Chapel from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
