He was preceded in death by his parents, Sherman and Eva Furrow; brother, Sherman Furrow, Jr; brothers-in -law, Paul Thurman and Paul Waldrop. Franklin was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. There was nothing more important to him than his family. He was a member of the Redwood United Methodist Church and a proud veteran, having served as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division of the Army. Left to cherish his memory and share his everlasting love is his wife of 53 years, Dalphia C. Furrow; sons and wives, Greg and Jannie Furrow, of Ferrum, Rodney and Sandy Furrow, of Roanoke. He is also survived by brothers and wives, Percy and Belvie Furrow, of Rocky Mount, Wayne and Poppy Furrow, of Charlottesville; sisters and husbands, Clara and Richard Eanes, of Rocky Mount and Lois and Shirley Campbell, of Redwood and twin sister, Francis Waldrop, of Ft. Bragg; sisters-in-law, Margaret Thurman and Linda Waybright; grandchildren, Ryan Furrow, Courtney Perdue, Chelsea Furrow, Storm Furrow and Jake Furrow; great-grandchildren, Justin Lutz and Taylor Furrow. Franklin also leaves behind many wonderful nieces, nephews, friends, church family, too numerous to mention, that were very dear to his heart. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Redwood United Methodist Church, 3001 Old Franklin Turnpike, Rocky Mount, VA 24151. Funeral services will be conducted from Redwood United Methodist Church 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 29, 2010 with the Rev. Bradley S. Dulaney officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park with military honors presented by American Legion Post 6. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Monday, June 28, 2010 with his family receiving friends 6 to 8 p.m. at Flora Funeral & Cremation Service, Rocky Mount, 540-483-3835 and other times at their home. on June 28, 2010.3

Percy was born on March 7, 1942, to the late Sherman Alvin Furrow and Eva Wimmer Furrow Guilliams. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 46 years, Belvie Hall Furrow; and two brothers, Franklin "Bud" Furrow and Sherman Alvin Furrow Jr. Percy lived his life for the Lord and worked hard for his family. He had one son, Michael Shannon (Chelsea Boyd) Furrow; and two daughters, Wanda Gail Shively and Marcella Renee Ledbetter. There was no doubt he loved his grandchildren, Joseph Washburn, Amanda (Joey) Smith, Tiffany Furrow, Joshua "Bo" Ledbetter, Antoinette "Toine" Shively, Brandon Furrow, Quintin Shively, and Michaela Furrow; one very special great-grandchild, Brayden Smith. Percy had sisters who he cherished, Clara (Richard) Eanes, Frances "Sis" Waldrop, Lois (Shirley) Campbell; one brother, Wayne (Poppy) Furrow; also a very special pet "Lucy". Percy was a hard working man who served his community as a mechanic. He had a heart of gold, and a voice of steel. He was a long time member of Furnace Creek Baptist Church, where his church family became his own. Funeral Services will be conducted from Furnace Creek Baptist Church 11 a.m. Saturday, February 11, 2012, with the Rev. Mike Lawhorn and the Rev. Ronald Coleman officiating. He will be laid to rest with his loving wife in the Hall Family Cemetery in Ferrum. A fellowship meal will be served at the church for family and friends following the burial. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Furnace Creek Baptist Church, 975 Scuffling Hill Road, Rocky Mount, VA 24151.      James Edward "Jimmy" Conner Jr. James E. Conner, Jr., 75, of Riner, passed away on Sunday, January 20, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Conner, Sr. and wife Ruby. Growing up in Floyd County James attended Check High School. After graduation he worked at Kroger in Salem for 33 years. Following a brief retirement from Kroger, James went back to work as a valet at Carilion in the New River Valley for five years. James was a loyal and passionate fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Minnesota Vikings, Virginia Cavaliers athletics, and Jeff Gordon racing. In his spare time James enjoyed gardening, canning food, and going on 4-wheeling trips to West Virginia with his friends. James is survived by his wife of 17 years, Linda Hoosier; daughter, Cindy Conner; son, Jeff Conner; stepchildren, Sharon Wright, Stephen Wiley, and Suzanne Wiley; grandchildren, Allen and Adam Conner, Amber Dalton, Dustin McClure, Matthew and Bethany LaPrade, Shelley and Shane Wright, and Claire and Emma Wiley; great-grandchildren, Brayden and Mila LaPrade, and Camden Conner; and long-time friends, Doug Westmoreland, Brenda Horne, and Jimmy, Sarah, Landon, and Ava Marrs. She was a hard-working one-of-a-kind lady whose entire family will cherish all the wonderful memories she created. She is survived by her children, Becky Graham, Ricky Turman (Vicky), Deana Fralin (Wayne), Sandra Painter (Jesse), and DeWayne Turman (Mindy); her grandchildren, Billy Graham, Michael, Vince, Zach and Chris Turman, Lindsay, Ashley and Daniel Setchel, Cody Turman, Hannah Bowles, Greg and Graci Fralin, and JD Turman, who she had a special bond with; and 14 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, Bruce Conner (Kathy), and Kenneth Conner (Robin), and many special nieces, nephews, and extended family. The family sends a very special thank you to Mindy Scheinder, who Mom loved like a daughter and took special care of her when she needed it most. The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m. on Sunday, October 25, 2020, at Oakey's South Chapel. The Graveside Service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Monday, October 26, 2020, at Copper Hill Cemetery in Copper Hill, Va. on October 23, 2020.2

He was born in Roanoke, January 11, 1927, son of the late James A. Sowder, Sr. and Emma Mitchell Sowder. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, James Gary Sowder; two sisters, Geneva Seaman and Martha Ann Sowder. Jim served in the US Navy during World War II as an Aviation Machinist. He was an advertising Salesman for Reuben H. Donnelly Company, for many years. He was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Coretta (Rita) Sowder; daughter, Donna de Simone and her husband, Mick of Blue Ridge; two grandsons, Matthew de Simone of Roanoke and Patrick de Simone of Blue Ridge; sister, Dolores Johnson and her husband Carl of Douglasville, Ga; a number of nieces and nephews; lifetime friend, Algie Martin of Floyd. Funeral Service will be held at the graveside, 11 a.m. Saturday, December 9, 2006, at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Chapel Mausoleum. The Revs. Donna Hopkins Britt and Timothy E. Martin to officiate. Sowder, 95, of Blue Ridge, Va., went to be with her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, August 17, 2021. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Alvah Sowder Jr; her son, James Gary Sowder; her parents, Ernest and Olivia Garraghty; and five brothers, Ashley, Reginald, Ernie, Calvin, and Giles Garraghty. She is survived by her daughter, Donna Sowder de Simone (Mick); her grandsons, Matthew James de Simone and Henry Patrick de Simone (Kaitlyn); two sisters, Marianne Wydner (John) and Myrianne Padgett (Roy); sister-in-law, Lillian "Betty" Garraghty; her loving caregiver, Gina Pickard; and many nieces and nephews. Coretta "Rita" was a loving wife, daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church and served as a preschool Sunday School Teacher for over 50 years. She was always known for her sweet, kind ways. on August 20, 2021.2
