He was the husband of Eula Cumbie Williams. Born in Amherst County, June 1, 1902, he was a son of the late John Morgan Williams and Emma Smoot Williams. He was a member of Madison Heights United Methodist Church and was a retired car inspector with the Southern Railroad. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Carmen (AFL-CIO) Spencer Lodge No. 205. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Gaynell (Sally) Schalk of Muskegon, Mich; one son, Clarence E. Williams and daughter-in-law, Dianne H. Williams, of Madison Heights; five grandchildren, Ernest Campbell of Fruitport, Mich., Eddie Williams, Billy Williams, both of Madison heights, Marie Smith of Muskeogon, Mich., and Julia Thompson of Orlando, Fla., six great-grandchildren; a devoted sister-in-law, Thelma Cumbie of Madison Heights; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Calvin Lynwood Williams, four sisters and two brothers. A graveside service will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in Spring Hill Cemetery by the Rev. Bob Lamb and the Rev. Glenn David Vaughan. on November 22, 1990.2

Leland grew up in Salem and worked at Gardner Denver, and later retired from Graham White Machine Shop in Salem, where he still worked two days a week until recently. Since retirement, his hobby has been working to restore his 1969 Ford Pickup. Leland enjoyed his church family at Southview United Methodist Church, and his family wants to thank all of them for the love and support they have given during his battle with cancer. In addition to his church family, the family would like to offer a special thanks to Dr. Mark Currie and the nurses at the Infusion Center for their many acts of kindness and compassion. Leland was a quiet and lovable person who was well respected by his family and friends. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Southview United Methodist Church or to the American Cancer Society. He was a retired Doctor of Music at Radford University. Surviving are his wife Gerry C. Lo Mascolo, Radford; his children and their spouses, Angelo and Susan Lo Mascolo, New York, Orlando, and Patsy Lo Mascolo, Knoxville, Tenn., Carlo and Cheryl Lo Mascolo, Radford, Gabriella and Stan Stanley, Dinwiddie, Giuliana and Ron Vega, Charlotte, N.C., Gloria and Gary Gibson, Roanoke, Giovanna and Jack Preston, Stuarts Draft; a brother-in-law, Nindo Perrino, Milan, Italy; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren also survive. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday, July 5, 2003 at the DeVilbiss Funeral Home. A Mass of the Resurection will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at St. Jude's Catholic Church with Father Patrick Golden officiating. Interment will follow in Sunrise Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Saint Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude's Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105 or to the Dr. Nicolo Lo Mascolo Music Scholarship Fund at Radford University.
