He served in the Army during the Korean War. He retired from DuPont in 1991 from the asbestos abatement department with more than 40 years of service. He was a member of Fieldale Baptist Church. Surviving are two daughters, Beverly Padgett Taylor and Lynn Padgett Hager, both of Martinsville; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 10, 2018, at 2 p.m. at Peace United Church of Christ. Burial will follow at Greenhill Cemetery in Greensboro. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1 until 2 p.m. at the church. Born in Greensboro, Dorn graduated from Smith High School and worked as a self-employed mechanic. He was a life-long member of Peace United Church of Christ, where he was an active member of the men's fellowship. In Dorn's younger days, he was a member of the Boy Scout Troop #160, worked a paper route for the Greensboro News and Record, and drove a school bus. He was what he considered himself to be an urban gardener and sold the fruits of his labor at a local farmer's market by Sticks and Stones off Elam Ave. He was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his father, John Frank Yeattes, Jr. Those left to cherish his memory include his mother, Doris Jones Yeattes of Greenboro; brother, Jeff Yeattes and his wife Karen of Greensboro; sister, Annette Yeattes Green and her husband James of Rural Hall; several cousins and other extended family. on September 9, 2018.2

He was a member of Woodbridge Neighborhood Association. He was an avid fan of professional football, specifically the Red Skins and Winston Cup Racing, especially Bill Elliott. He was a long time member of Northminster Presbyterian Church, where he served as Deacon and also Chairman of the Board of Deacons. He was the eldest son of the late Allen and Gertrude Vest. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Bob Mentel, Salem; son and daughter-in-law, Joey and Kimberly Vest, Danville; granddaughter, Samantha Vest, Danville; a loving brother and sister-in-law, David and Susie Vest, Floyd; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Sandy and Sandra Lucas, Roanoke; nephews and nieces, Allen, Ellen and Marcee Vest, Floyd, Dr. Yvonne Thayer, Atlanta, Ga; a very special friend, his Cocker Spaniel, Ginger, as well as Dixie and Mingo; also surviving are many cousins and friends. Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. Friday, June 27, 1997 at Northminister Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. David Kirk officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 26 at Lotz Funeral Home, Salem.
