     Lillian Loretta Light Lillian Loretta Light Brumfield, 78, of Itmann, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 3, 2011 surrounded by her loving family at Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley following a long illness. Born May 20, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Beatrice (Woolwine) Light. Loretta was a homemaker and a member of the Alpoca Pentecostal Church Of God. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and loved bargain shopping at yard sales and auctions. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, Porter Lee; an infant daughter; two grandsons, Jerry Dean Brumfield and Jerry Lee Brumfield, Jr; one sister, Susan (Lena) Light Sizemore; and one brother-in-law, Weaver Sizemore. Those left to cherish her memory include her loving children, Jerry Brumfield and his wife, Barbara, of Itmann, Ronnie Brumfield of Itmann, Jack Brumfield of Madison, NC, Wanda Brumfield and her companion, Thomas Lattie, of Itmann, Jimmy Brumfield and his wife, Patty, of Rhodell, and Kathy Brumfield and her companion, Robert Tilley, of Mullens; two brothers, Herman Light, Jr. and his wife, Margaret, of Itmann and Bill Light and his wife, Darlene, of Stephenson; two sisters, Nancy Lester and her husband, Luther, of Alpoca, and Rosie Sizemore of Alpoca; eleven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Pennington, on April 18, 1941 at Mullens, Wyoming Co., West Virginia.^1,2,5 Iris Vivian Ray died on January 11, 2017 at West Virginia at age 94.² She Iris Ray Thompson went to be with her beloved Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 11, 2017. She was a dedicated servant of Jesus all her life, after being saved at a very young age. She was the 10th of 11 children born to Robert E. Lee Ray and Magdalene (Maggie) Chambers Ray. Born on Rum Creek in Logan County, on June 30, 1922, Iris moved to Wyoming County as a young girl (about age 14). She went to cousin Wiley Bower's farm on Bowers Ridge, which is the current site of Twin Falls State Park. Iris frequently said the time on Bowers Ridge was some of her happiest memories, forming close lifelong friendships with cousins Sally Bower Neal and Theresa Houck Thompson. During school time she stayed with Wiley Bower's daughter Lucy and her husband George Ballard, who managed Pinecrest Sanitarium in Beckley, WV. She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley, as the Salutatorian of the class of 1941, where she was chosen as the "Most Athletic Girl" in her senior class. She married Vance "Red" Thompson and settled in Mullens, WV, where she raised 3 sons, Steven, David, and Joel Richard (Dick). After her children were raised, Iris became an LPN and worked at the Mullens Hospital Emergency Room for many years. After her husband Red died in 1983, she moved to Myrtle Beach, SC, to be near her son, Dr. J.R. (Dick) Thompson, and his family, and lived there for the next 23 years. She worked with Dick at his Endoscopy Center at the Grand Strand Medical Center for several years, and finished her career at age 75, at Myrtle Beach Manor Nursing Home. She moved back to her beloved West Virginia in 2007, settling in Monroe County where her maternal family (Chambers) originally settled, near Peterstown, WV, in 1780. Iris was predeceased by her husband Red and her son Steven. She is survived by son David and his wife Evelyn of Marie, WV, and son Dick and his wife Elaine of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Greenville, WV, nine grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Iris was greatly loved by all who knew her and was especially adored by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was a lifelong church attender and was a member of Countryside Baptist Church, in Forest Hill, WV, at the time of her death. She was constantly humming hymns as she went about her work. She had a beautiful voice and loved singing for the Lord. Burial will immediately follow at the Mountain View Community Church Cemetery, at Elgood, WV. on January 14, 2017.²

     Edna Gay Quesinberry DAHLINGER, Edna Gay of Kalamazoo, Michigan Passed away Saturday, May 17, 2014. Edna was born October 22, 1933 in Maben, WV the daughter of Leslie and Minnie Graybeal Quesinberry. Prior to her retirement she was employed with Bronson Methodist Hospital as a registered nurse. Edna enjoyed quilting, playing bridge, walking beaches, and watching the birds in her backyard. She was also a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Edna was preceded in death by her first husband, James Thompson; and three brothers, Homer, Mick, and Thomas. On February 15, 1969 she was united in marriage to her loving husband, Russell Dahlinger, Sr. who survives. He was in his 86th year. Born August 25, 1922, at Matoaka, Mason was one of seven children born to the late Jacob Woodyard and Cora Lee Jennings Meadows. A sister, Lois, also preceded him in death. Mr. Meadows spent his childhood at Stephenson. He entered the U.S. Army at the age of 20 serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He was a recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon and the World War II Victory Ribbon. An electrical foreman in the mines, he retired from Itmann Coal Company, an affiliate of Pocahontas Fuel. He had over 40 years of service in the mining industry. A longtime resident of Mullens, he has resided in Beckley since 1973, where he was a member of the Memorial Baptist Church. He taught the Beacon Sunday School Class for 19 years and the Disciple Sunday School Class for five years. In addition to his parents and sister, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Irene Vest Meadows. Mason is the beloved husband of Paulette Meadows; the dear father of Sandra Hathaway and her husband Rev. Dr. Skip Hathaway of Yorktown, Va; the fond stepfather of Christine Miller and her husband Edward of St. Louis, Mo; the doting grandfather of Rev. Sonny Hathaway and his wife Christina and their children, Mason Samuel, Mitchell Joseph, and Peyton James Hathaway; and Katherine Mills Miller and John Edward Miller; the brother of Alma Thornton of Welch; Clifton Meadows of Mullens; Gloria Gay Payne of Beckley; Nawasa Falvo of Roderfield; and Charlotte Johnson of Amigo; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Melton Mortuary Chapel with the Pastor Paul Blizard and Dr. Charles Bright officiating. Committal services will be at 4 p.m. in the Chapel of the Wildwood Mausoleum in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Burial will follow in the Masonic Section of the cemetery. For more than 89 years, Glen Phillips lived a life that left an impression on everyone he touched. He came from humble beginnings on a small farm in Saulsville, W.Va., where he was the second born of Lacy and Susie's eight children. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Although he is preceded in death by his wife, Audrey, they journeyed through life together for over 58 years. He was employed by Columbia Gas of WV for more than 30 years and was blessed to enjoy more than 30 years of retirement. A lifelong member of the Friendship Old Regular Baptist Church in Saulsville, he loved his Lord and lived a life that exemplified his faith. He will be missed beyond measure by his family and friends and by his daughters and son – Pam Healy (Brian) of Charleston, Joan Duffey (Bill) of Millwood, Debbie Grubb (Doug) of Cardington, Ohio, and David Phillips of Buckhannon. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren are blessed with many memories of a soft-spoken grandfather who cherished them. Although quiet by nature, he was an incredibly kind and genuine man who made people smile. Every day that he was able, he visited his extended family at Shoney's and his family would like to thank Amy, Anne, Kathy and everyone at Shoney's for their care and concern. We would also like to thank Cliff for his friendship over the last year and a half and Dr. Jack Kinder and his staff for invaluable guidance. The family will celebrate Glen's life on Thursday, January 30, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Stevens and Grass Funeral Home in Malden. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Penelope Ann; a brother, Harold of Pataskala, Ohio; and former wives, Jean and Gaynell. As a 1944 graduate of Glen Rogers High School and a graduate of Coyne Electrical School, Chicago, Ill., he completed specialized courses with Ingersoll-Rand Co., Dennison Hydraulics Co. and Beckley College. He was employed by Raleigh Wyoming Mining Co. and U.S. Steel from 1947 to 1957. For the next 20 years, he was a sales and service representative for Lee Norse, Beckley, where his contributions played an integral role in the improvements of the continuous miner. He was a business partner with Phillips Machine Service, serving as vice president of sales. Within the coal industry, he was well known and respected for his contributions and knowledge. After leaving Philips Machine Service, he worked as a realtor with Century 21 and Reed-Patton Realty until his retirement. Mr. Phillips belonged to the Raleigh County Chamber of Commerce. He served as Sunday school superintendent at Coal Marsh Baptist Church while living in Glen Daniel. He has belonged to Maxwell Hill Baptist Church, Shady Spring Baptist Church serving as a deacon, and First Baptist Church, Beckley. He most recently was a member of Calloway Heights Baptist Church. He was an active member of the Beckley Masonic Lodge 95 and Gideons International. He was inducted into the Glen Rogers High School Hall of Fame on June 1, 1986, in celebration of his accomplishments as a local businessman. Survivors include his wife of 19 years, Sue Wilson Phillips; son and daughter-in-law, Terence and Tenna of Beckley; daughters and sons-in-law, Sheryl of Greenville, S.C., Kathy and Sam Evans of Dallas, Texas, Kim and Jose Castanon of Farmers Branch, Texas; stepdaughter and son-in-law, Amy and Chuck Morton of Danville, Va; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bryce and Pauline of Saulsville, Glen and Audrey of Charleston, Ivan and Vadah of Corinne, Marvin and Shirley of Saulsville, Roger and Margaret of Liverpool, N.Y; sister and brother-in-law, Geneva and Sidney Dixon of Saulsville; sister-in-law, Phyllis of Pataskala, Ohio; seven grandchildren; one stepgrandson; one great-granddaughter. Born July 13, 1922, at Saulsville, in Wyoming County, she was the daughter of the late William "Wid" Dixon and Della A. Tilley Dixon. She was a member of the Friendship Church of Old Regular Baptist. She was a homemaker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, John Dixon and wife, Beulah, Sidney Dixon, and infant brother Elvie; sisters Sylvia Green and husband, Willie, Hazel Blankenship and husband, Hiley, and Edna Green and husband, Andy; brother-in-law, Arnold Green; and fatherand mother-in-law Lacy and Susie Tolliver Phillips. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Junior Bryce Phillips; four sons, Jack Phillips and wife, Shirley, of Ghent, Jim Phillips and wife, Linda, of Gainesville, FL, Roger Phillips and wife, Vickie, of Ghent, and Randall Phillips and wife, Rebecca, of East Liverpool, OH; daughter Carolyn Phillips Rinehart and husband, Milburn, of Saulsville; 12 grandchildren, John Rinehart and wife Staci, of Milwaukee, WI, Brian Rinehart and wife, Leesa, of Chesterton, IN, Jennifer Armacost and husband, Dan, of Chesterton, IN, Michelle Phillips of Lakewood, CA, Courtney McCabe and husband, Tom, of El Dorado, KS, Roger Phillips and wife, Angie, of Raleigh, NC, Adam Phillips of Raleigh, NC, Amy Hazlett and husband, Duane, of Gainesville, FL, Kristi and Kelli Phillips both of Gainesville, FL, Brett Phillips of East Liverpool, OH, and Whitney Phillips of El Dorado, KS; 23 greatgrandchildren; one sister, Mae Green of WelchPineville Road; and a host of wonderful nieces and nephews. A celebration of Pauline's life will be 11 a.m. Monday, January 3, 2011, at the Friendship Church, Saulsville, with Elders Lonnie Mullins, Verne Blankenship, Russell McCoy, Gene Green and Dr. John Rinehart officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers with John and Lon Green as honorary pallbearers. She was born in Chicago. She was of the Baptist faith, a 40-year resident of Raleigh County, an interior decorator for Ballengee Furniture Co. with 20 years' service, and a homemaker. Surviving: son, Terry Phillips of Beckley; daughters, Sherry Phillips of Beckley, Kathy Evans of Dallas, Texas; brother, Adolph Benson of Chicago; sisters, Darlene Burm of Leawood, Kan., Gloria Smith of Des Moines, Iowa, Betty Hopkins of Tampa, Fla; four grandchildren. Service will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Melton Mortuary, Beckley, with the Rev. Bryce Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley. on June 19, 1993.⁴
